I'm sure they were waiting for Lord Dragoneer to wave his scepter and give his approval, because no one can do anything without his approval, and he doesn't have the time to do that kind of stuff!

Dragoneer repeatedly offered assurances, re the people who had their notes leaked, that he had contacted them. However it turns out he didn't contact all of them. Since auroraborealia was unaware that her notes had been leaked till today, when she received a phone call from Sniff Heinkal wherein he told her that her notes and address et al were available for the whole internet to see and he said that she better hope that "hell doesn't come down on your arse for all the fucking bullshit that you've pulled. As you may, or (hopefully) may not be aware, FA was very harshly hacked on December 16th. Upwards of 41 people, myself included had their personal and private information leaked. This varied from phone numbers, to addresses, real names, or a combination of the aforementioned. This livejournal entry explains it better, and in... somewhat more depth.

According to various posts, the people who were compromised were supposed to be contacted regarding this. However... I have not heard anything regarding this situation. Nothing. Not even an instant message, let alone an e-mail. Now I doubt i'm the only one, if someone can prove me wrong and that they've been actively contacted by Dragoneer, or someone else in charge in regards to this situation, please do. Until then, I am under the impression the administration of this website I used to adore have swept us under the rug and forgotten about us.

I feel bad typing this, however something needs to be said, and even more-so: Done.

Due to FA's lack of action in regards to this, as well as other preventative actions FA could have taken, I have received a phone call and concealed threat voice-mail from sniffheinkel, aka Timothy Slosky, aa, http://encyclopediadramatica.com/Sniff_Heinkel . This is the voice-mail I received. If it get removed from youtube I will re-post it on MediaFire and other various hosting sites. when I first received this I had a panic attack. I started having nightmares, and now I have to deal with the inconvenience of losing out on possible employment calls due to the fact I have to change my number thanks to FA's... shitty security, and allowing holes to go un-patched, KNOWING something bad could happen.
Now, the phone number is a minor thing, my ADDRESS is another matter entirely. I can't just CHANGE that as easily as my cell phone number. Now people who I pissed off all across the united states, mostly Mr. Slosky, have a method to send items via the postal service to my home. All because FA did not pull the website down, and KEEP it down, until ALL the holes were closed. For years now people have VOLUNTEERED their services to FA for FREE just to increase security, as well as patch up the shitty coding.
Now, I don't know jack SHIT about coding, but I know enough that FA is royally fucked, and still WIDE open for a hacker attack, again. I would rather have four months of NO FA while it gets fixed to the best of standards, then use a website that constantly gets hacked, exploited, and abused. FA... you KNEW these problems existed. You KNEW they needed to be fixed, you KNEW this type of hacking could very easily happen, and yet you did nothing. you did not take the offers of MANY people who offered to code the website for free. You avoided problems, you allowed less then stellar staff members to retain their positions despite overwhelming evidence that they should not only be kicked off staff, but FA entirely... how could you? Everything you've said, everything you preached, was a flat out lie.

I loved FA, I truly did. I told myself 'Shit happens' for awhile after all this happened... but now, I can't ignore it any longer. I did not even get a PERSONAL apology. That public widespread 'i'm sorry' on LJ? No where NEAR good enough for me, and a complete cop-out. I've taken downfall after downfall, and i'm sick of it. I refuse to be part of a website that shows so little care for it's users, and the website security that needs help, SO bad. As you can see, i've completely blanked my FA gallery. I'll be moving onto my other accounts to clean them out as well, soon enough. I will be migrating to InkBunny, SoFurry, and Deviantart. Feel free to follow me there if you so choose, but I refuse to be apart of this website any more unless Fa improves..

Commissioners, I will e-mail you your commissions as they are completed, and/or post them on the other websites i'm a member of.

Now if someone, preferably Dragoneer, would like to contact me regarding this, I will be more then happy to listen. But if i'm ignored... well, I see how important FA's users are, as well as the security of their private information. :)

It occurs to me that while it states that "you" (the recipient) were one of the 41 people targeted, it does not actually directly state that these 41 people had their notes taken, merely that the privacy of several individuals was compromised and that some private notes were illegally downloaded. It makes no mention of the notes being put up for download either. If you were one of the 41 victims and received that e-mail, you might not realize that your notes had been copied and put up for download (although not 41 notes have been released, only some of them).

Alright, i've had some time to cool down, so i'm gonna write up a clarification or three.

Turns out I WAS contacted. This is my fault entirely for not checking every folder, nor checking the dummy address I used for this account. You guys can stop harassing Dragoneer about it. While yes, there was a LOT more that could have been done during, prior, and even after this situation, he did send me an e-mail. I feel like a bigger cunt, and I deserve it.

However.

This still does not excuse the points I previously made in my journal, such as that FA knew these issues were around, and knew a huge problem was around the corner. They shoulda had a huge red flag when Apollo AND Eevee both pointed out vulnerabilities that had MONTHS to be fixed.
Not to mention the previous statement that some staff members should have been kicked off a LONG, LONG time ago, or never accepted in the first place. When I was a mod trainee on Gaia Online, they required us to answer or respond to at LEAST 100 reports a WEEK. Something similar should be imposed on the current admins of FA. I've seen several who not only don't answer tickets, but their accounts are near inactive as well. An FA admin, although not a PAID job, is still a job that requires your attention, not when you feel like it, and let some OTHER admin take the brunt of the word because you don't feel like it. You jut enjoy swinging that "@" by your name like a sloppy cock.

My point still stands, until FA fixes it's staffing problems, completely recodes and repairs the website, and completely renews itself, I will have no active part in it. I'm gonna jumble my password soon and make it so I have to do a password restore in order to sign back in. Who knows, maybe i'll earn myself a ban with some comments i've been posting.

Actually just a minor correction, she was aware her notes were leaked the day they were leaked. She got that call over a weak ago because I contacted her and suggested methods of how to get get the audio onto her computer.

Though all this is slightly humorous, considering who its coming from. Auroraborealia was one of the people kind of egging the note leaking stuff on and was calling people involved with it names and such.

I guess it's funny until you get burned along with it, as always. I'm sure if she hadn't been targeted, she'd still remain loyal to the site and the WYS-FA circlejerk and in fact would probably be one of the people going "STOP COMPLAINING ITS A FREE SITE U MAD XD"

Unfortunately a lot of the bashing Sean gets /is/ self-inflicted. One can work incredibly hard bailing out water on the Titanic but that's no substitute for ensuring you don't hit the iceberg in the first place.

02c but we've had these discussions often enough 3-4+ years back and so many "wake up call" situations in the past. How much time is "some time"?

It's fair to say that Sean is managing better than 95-98%+ of people could possibly do, even if they were motivated, but the overall approach is still fundamentally flawed. It's simply not possible to work on the UI, participate actively to the degree he does in comments/+favs/etc., try to coordinate the finances /and/ project manage the whole of FA at the same time: I cannot see any indication that things have changed for the better these past couple of years, even if the vast majority of the community can be oblivious to such matters most of the time. That the community-member facing side of FA can more-or-less run on autopilot is "useful" but probably hasn't helped from a strategic p.o.v.

Still hoping for the best, regardless.

So over in the "Chase resigns" thread a journal comment has been quoted alluding to a forthcoming code of conduct for admins.

An interesting idea, and, bestill my beating heart for applying this phrase to something Dragoneer is alleged to be considering thinking about maybe doing, an appropriate thing to do...if it actually materializes and is enforced. On one hand, it'd be unheard of for Princess Piche to actually have some managerial balls, or any balls really. On the other hand, maybe, just maybe, this last disaster made him realize that his little fiefdom is not impenetrable, that FA could in fact be destroyed or at least severely damaged (in terms of popularity).

I'm sure the whole Furileaks incident gave him a good scare, now whether or not he can actually do anything right if he actually tries, is an entirely different matter. It does seem that one reliable way to motivate him is some perceived threat to FA, whether that be the legality of cub porn, or his welfare line of credit with the furry fandom. He's content to sit on his ass and play TF2 unless he gets it in his head that FA, the only thing saving him from the eternal abyss of furry irrelevance, could be threatened.

Anytime one of the admins breaks a rule in the code of conduct Dragoneer will respond (a week or so later) with "We all make mistakes!" and how he gave said admin a "good talking to" and a "warning" and nothing will ever happen.

Also, someone has leaked a thread full of many of the administrator's contact information (see: real names, locations, phone numbers) on lulz.
