So Watch Your Step just put out a new mission statement:

I want WYS and it's staff to be a number of things. I want us to be the honest ones, the truth seekers. I want WYS to be the ones that educate you, that warn you, that encourage you. I want this site to be the one that makes you think, that makes you speak up, that makes you ask questions, that makes you realize you do have a voice and all you have to do is use it.

So that's the direction this site will be heading in.

We will always be the ones to call "bullshit". But that isn't our main goal anymore. We've grown too large. It's too easy for a mentality to start that I don't want to see happen. I don't want us to be the drama mongers, the ones that you're forever looking over your shoulder for. That isn't what I want to be known for, what I don't want this site to become known for.

Uh-huh. For those who haven't been keeping up on the recent events that have rocketed Watch Your Step to the spotlight, check out the thread about the recent incident that nearly took out e621.

As you can see, Watch Your Step's goal of calling bullshit on people is far from achieved, seeing as how it has just taken part in unloading quite a massive pile of the ol' warm and brown. Instead of condemning both sides for the snafu, they use it is a launching point to promote themselves and their own agenda.

WYS just seems to be way too 'Trying to hard' to be critical of the furry fandom.  Especially with that authoritarian 'You are now banned from furry' that they do for every notable dumbass.  WYS has no power to influence how the majority of the fandom views any other particular furry so it's a worthless 'punishment'.  Getting banned from FA is a lot more 'banned from furry' than anything WYS can do, cause at least FA is the major center of furry media.

CYD was really the best at what it did for those few golden years.  We split off because (and apologies to Mitch where due) it was turning into...well, let's just say it died a very long, slow, embarrassing death.  And WYS appears to have started even lower down the ladder of embarrassment at its very inception, with signs pointing nowhere but down.

Geeze, even the name smacks of the sort of 'taking the Internet too seriously' that we strive to avoid here.  Nobody who frequents and champions a fetish website that happily allows pedophiles and zoophiles to post their wank material has even the slightest bit of authority to tell anyone else to 'watch their step'.  Hell, the only things protecting FA from the same fate that IK brought upon e621 are the ability to hide 'adult' work behind a login wall and a few legal loopholes.  Well, and the ludicrous amount of cash that furries seem to throw at the site which could potentially be used for a legal battle.  But I digress.

It's all pretty hilarious and full of unwarranted self importance, but that's par for the course when furries are involved so no surprise there.

Mainly because I don't think people understand the intent of WYS. Allan (my quasi arch-nemesis) is finally on the right track thanks to WYS, prioritizing paying people back and doing what he needs to do to get back on the right path. Once he realized our bitching was because he was lying, not being honest... he actually had a wake up call. He realized his friends were the ones pushing the drama on his side. Noticed that people were pushing him down a bad road, and encourage he make the wrong choices.

WYS has done good, and Allan's pretty much paid back his debt near fully at this point.

The real shame is that every time a place pops up that's occupied by those who are critical of the furry fandom, those places focus on ragging endlessly on the furry fandom and it's morons that make the 'Furry News'.  None of them seem to actually take those furries and let them enjoy a version of the furry fandom without being ankle deep in furfaggotry.  Like, honestly, I'd have a lot more fun in the fandom if I could find a place where I could enjoy it without worring about fanboys falling inlove with me for my medicore writing, people who think they really, really are a wolf on the inside or that insane crap.  I'd like to think that if I found such a place, I could do more than bemoan the rest of the fandom and little else.

I think Kindrift nailed it in the e621 thread when he called them "grade school". Seriously, everyone there is 18 years old, either literally or mentally.

My guess is that Dragoneer posts there because he views them as useful idiots in his war against rival porn slingers. The thing is I kind of doubt most of them really are aware of that. Of course, there's always the open question of where on the stupidity-malice continuum Princess Piche himself falls.

Also, SilverAutomatic's Twitter bio said at one point he was an EMT. Since he openly posts his real name pretty much everywhere he goes, sooner or later someone's gonna try to give him a taste of his own medicine. I'm sure the
agency he works for wouldn't think highly of what he does online.

I honestly think it's a matter of time before one of those kids starts fucking with the wrong person. Since they are just kids, many of them are sloppy with their personal info--someone's gonna rat them out to parents or an employer, or something. THEN things will be interesting at WYS, and not in the way they'd want it to be either.

To be honest, I could never quite buy the idea of Dragoneer being a bad person. He occasionally admits to mistakes. He occasionally does the right thing.

The problem is that he lives in what can only be described as nature's harmonic simultaneous 4-day echo chamber. And he likes it in there so much he doesn't want to leave. His association with WYS is going to blow up in his face very badly at some point, and he doesn't want to realize this.

Most likely. I think influence from Chase might actually have something to do with his association with them, as both the leader and the "writer/researcher" of WYS are both in Chase's inner circle of friends, it seems. I kind of get this image of Piche telling Chase about some sort of woe and him relaying the message to WYS in the best Marlon Brando impersonation he can muster.
