So, nothing has changed. 2 has still had success purely by catering to furries.

The really sad thing is that he actually feels he's somehow accomplished something. It's like he doesn't even realize that absolutely nothing has changed except the building surrounding his act and the fact that a lot of much more successful people perform around him. He's performing to the exact same audience he always has and that has always just laughed and claptered along to his same old material in the exact same way, and yet he thinks it's somehow different because it wasn't at a furry con.

I also find myself a bit skeptical at his claims of the comics somehow "figuring out" that the audience was furries, and becoming enthused about performing for furries more often. I think this is either 2 editing his memory for content, or trying to give an ego stroke to his fanboys. What I find more likely is that one or more comics remarked something along the lines of "Wow, this is a really easy audience" or "Man they're receptive", 2 proceeded to launch into some explanation of how they were furries and what furries were and how many of his fans had shown up, which was likely responded to with "Oh. That's nice. Wish every audience was this easy."

And it's very funny how he keeps referring to these people as "[his] opening acts", as if these Comedy Central veterans were merely called in to fill time before the glorious main even that was 2 the Ranting Gryphon. Maybe that's just the technically correct term or something and I'm misreading it, I dunno, but it just comes off more like trying to make himself sound important and central to the night (supported by him saying things like "whipped up", as if they'd scrambled to find these guys to fill out his show), rather than what it really was: a bunch of successful comics lined up as the main event, with an "also featuring" some unknown newb they put on dead last so that most of the people would have bought their drinks and food before he chased them out.

Whiiiiiich brings me to another thing. Now, 2 moved a lot of tickets by selling to furries, obviously... with the exact same furries likely to buy tickets to his next show, and his next, and so on. So they made some money off of him. But everyone knows that the real money from places like that comes from the booze and the food... things furries can be notoriously stingy about. While it may have been a full house, I'm betting the till from the concessions was at an all-time low from murrypurries sneaking their dollar menu burgers in under their neckbeards and in their Tails backpacks. The house is relying on selling an average of a ten buck cocktail per table, most likely... not practically everybody in the place ordering a soda with free refills and every third table ordering the cheapest appetizer on the menu.

Yeah, I'm disappointed too. If you pack your audience with sycophants, how can you tell if you've got stand-up skills when they're not around?  The sick-of-hearing-about-him part of me doesn't want him to succeed, but another part of me does.  Because whenever someone in the fandom goes professional, they tend to leave the fandom behind them. Imagine the conversations his agent would have with him about how best to pursue his stand-up career in light of furry.

I wouldn't be surprised if he made some degree of mainstream success. He basically follows the Carlos Mencia format of thinking cussing, volume and insult-creating-intensity rather than verbal wit make for good comedy, which does appeal to the knuckle-dragging masses.

But he regurgitates furry hate an nerd rage not racism... which doesn't coincide with Mencia's success with budweiser drinking racists who just want to see a mexican making fun of mexicans.

Hate to double post, but this is rather good.

Apparently a normal audience doesn't like getting screeched at.

I'm betting a lot of the laughs he got after he "reigned it in" were nervous chuckles.

2 is being given every sign that he is not going to play with normals, and on some level seems to comprehend that, but he's determined to rush forward screaming all the way until he just can't figure out why the Comedy Store blocked his number.

Heh. Eight minute bit amongst fifteen other guys. Still the end-of-night filler, eh 2?

No, 2.

They didn't laugh because you're not funny.

EDIT: My God.  The more I read the posts from all of 2's ball-hangers, the more I realize that furries, as a whole, have an absolutely terrible sense of humor.

You know how people with Down's Syndrome tend to be tone-deaf? Aspberger's seems to have a similar effect on one's sense of humor.

Really in this case all it is is the inability to intuitively know a lot of social stuff. You can learn it, but it takes effort. It's like learning a language you didn't grow up speaking.

Oh, that use of the word mundane originates from science-fiction fandom, decades before furry fandom even existed.  Most often it's heard in the context of "Don't freak the mundanes", i.e., don't behave in a way to confuse, annoy, or squick people who aren't part of the fandom by doing something fandom-ish in front of them.  But still, yeah, as a word it's depreciating and creates a false sense of "betterness".

In this case, it indicates that they think that their sense of humor is somehow more advanced than that of non-furries.

Furries seem to have this idea that any random use of words is gut-busting hilarious.  Even the mere mention of the phrase "abort the toast" is enough to send 2's sycophants into fits of uproarious laughter.   I'd like to think that there's some sort of story behind that phrase that actually makes it into some type of inside joke that only 2's fans know, but I wouldn't be surprised if the entire punchline is 2 shouting "ABORT THE TOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAST!" at the top of his lungs, then standing silently with a Dane Cook-like smirk on his face for the next 5 seconds, expecting the crowd to let it sink in, figure out what the fuck he's talking about, decide that what they just heard is the funniest thing ever shouted by anyone, and laugh uncontrollably for the next two minutes.

Explains the popularity of Family Guy among furries, I guess.

If only for my own amusement, I can at least think of a joke to go along with a punchline of 'abort the toast', in a Mike Burbiglia storytelling joke sort of manner.  But those sorts of jokes require one to have actual life experiences that can be found amusing by others, and somehow I don't think an idyllic furfag lifestyle counts.

Has anyone put up a podcast or whatever of 2's routines from one of his CC shows? It'd be interesting to see what, if any differences there are from his usual rants.

No, 2 apparently DMCAs anyone that puts up any sort of video of his performances.

His desire to not be mocked by the public at large apparently outweighs his desire for attention and publicity.

Really. Well, if someone's got video or audio, I've got a host that knows how to handle DMCAs from furries.

This morning the Improv canceled his show scheduled for tomorrow (and replaced him with this guy), so he posted a journal about it with just a hint of bawwww. Already plenty of asspat comments and people saying he should sue for "breach of contract" and "damages".

And by "show" I mean he was going to perform for 10 minutes.

Dude needs to work on his timing and tighten up his act a little bit, but certainly light years ahead of 2 on the comedy front.

Also hahaha suing for breech of contract yes go on dig that hole even deeper
