DC Simpson/Dana Simpson may have won that Amazon contest to have their comic syndicated, yet it has still not launched. DC Simpson had this to say about that, in November 2010:

Quote from: Dana Simpson
So the main question people keep asking me is: when is "Girl" going to launch?

The answer is one you will probably find as unsatisfying as I do: I don't know.

Firstly, the way it works: syndicates launch 2-3 strips every year, and at any point they have a number of strips under development, waiting for the green light. I was hoping to get the fall launch slot, but I didn't.

The syndicate let me know, in August, that they were launching "Thatababy," one of the strips I beat in the contest last year, ahead of me (and ahead of several other strips that had been in development longer). They said there were several reasons, one of which was that they had launched two "talking animal" strips in a row, and didn't want to launch a third.

So if I'm lucky I might get in in spring 2011. Cross your fingers for me. In the meantime, I'm getting paid to send them 20 roughs a month, which come back to me with commentary written all over it by several editors.

They also let me know, though, that they wanted me to try some changes to the strip. The title, for one thing. Too generic.

Also, I'm experimenting with the cast. In the most recent strips I've given my protagonist a name and paired her with a little boy.

RUMOUR CONTROL assures us that the comic hasn't been dropped:

Quote from: Dana Simpson
Rumors, o rumors

Reader MM writes:

There's a rumor going around GoComics.com that Girl was dispqualified by dint of the fact that some of the strips were reworked Ozy and Millie 'toons.

If there is such a rumor, there's no truth to it.

DC Simpson's Wikipedia article states:

"as of February 2011, the Andrews McMeel Universal website displays no evidence of having published Girl or any other work by Simpson."

(Andrews McMeel being the syndicate)

In the meantime, DC Simpson has produced a personal portfolio, and the requisite shaving picture is there:

And Raine Dog is being relaunched, restarted and redrawn:

It begins with Raine Dog being gunned down at a political rally for preaching tolerance et cetera, so hopefully it will be as much a train-wreck as it previous was.
then he hent that noble prince by the hand,
and said "welcome my soueraigne King HENERY!
chalenge thy Herytage and thy Land,
that thine owne is, and thine shall bee."

I hate to repeat a post but that's a pretty hilarious thing to wake up to.  Bravo.

I have never seen Simpson's picture before - all I gotta say is that is one ugly man and/or woman. :(

IT HAPPENED.

Yes! After two and a half fucking years, "Girl" has finally debuted! Well kind of -- the title and premise have both been fiddled with, no doubt in a desperate attempt to salvage it and save face, so now it's called "Heavenly Nostrils" (whoo what a wacky and random-sounding title that is) and it's about a girl and her unicorn. Yeah.

So one's earnest and easygoing, while the other's a snarky smartass...where've we seen that one before?

Haha! Joke stolen from the Aladdin movie, capped with a gratuitous pop-culture reference!

Super powers! McNuggets! Oh this is so wacky I may drown in the deluge of monkey cheese. Yup, totally worth the wait.

I think the Bono joke is kind of funny. To be honest, I thought the world had forgotten about this whole thing.

I'm actually surprised they decided to go ahead and debut it, considering the whole contest cheating thing.
Writing seems DCS-standard, and at least the art isn't too bad. Although, their art hasn't changed from "not too bad" in years so that's not exactly a good thing.
Character seems a little less self-inserty, so there's that at least.

Guess what: a fan has pointed out that the whole premise is totally original
