I think it's a bit more complicated than "becoming a pariah to Wan’s fanboi brigade". Time and time again, we've seen Dragoneer's friendships with people drive how he acts, both on his site and elsewhere.
Simply put, at this point I'd imagine he considers Zaush a "friend", and thus he will not do anything whatsoever that might compromise the friendship, which apparently includes having them depart the site staff. It wouldn't be fun or pleasant, which means he won't do it.
We've seen this happen with Chase both times he was on staff. The first time, he was untouchable. Then, Chase insulted Dragoneer's father and he was shitcanned within a very short time. Now he's back, and it's right back to being untouchable like he was before. In his mind, it's all about friendship, and if ignoring what Chase said about his parents and going through a PR disaster just to make sure one more person talks to him, he'll do it.
I guess what I'm trying to say is that Dragoneer is desperate. He'll do anything to keep people around him, and at this point it seems like that includes sinking his own ship. I'd say that I'm amazed no one has really taken advantage of the trust he puts in his friends, but I don't think anyone smart enough to take advantage of him wants to deal with him.
