FA's Horrible Admins (AKA Death of FA)
« on: February 16, 2013, 03:08:55 pm »
Recently, a very popular FA member qarrezel posted a journal in response to an admin's decision to remove a friends journal. Apparently this person had been stalked by member fredriksam.
Here's the journal:

(Edit: Fixed screenshot. Last one was too wide.)

The link can be found here.
Already masses of users have moved over from FA to Weasyl "Permanently."
Could this be the death of FA, or will people just come back, because you know, it's FA. Only time will tell.

Edit:
As of right now (February 17th), since the journal was posted (February 15th), a total of 4616 new users have registered on Weasyl. I'm betting a lot more will join as the news passes around the fandom.

Yeah, no, this isn't gonna have any long-term impact on FA.  At this point, it would probably take something like Dragoneer getting indicted on a felony, or a site outage of more than about 4 months.

pmart about has it. The effects seem to have been twofold:

1: A small cadre of people have gone LEAVING FA FOREVER, and a larger contingent went 'hey wait a minute, Weasyl is open beta now? Let's have a go!' ...which means Weasyl is now entering the Main Sequence of FA-alternatives, that is the initial burst of activity before everyone gets sick of maintaining two sites and goes back to FA. If they can make the burst 'stick', then maybe they have a thing going.
2: An about-as-large group of the I BELIEVE IN SEAN PICHE crowd have gone off the rails in labeling the whole situation as 'drama', up to and including insinuations that it was done as a PR stunt for Weasyl. People have suggested (hi Johnny!) that those promoting the incident - and the victim herself - be "Pilloried" and shunned. Given Qarrezel's standing in the fandom, good luck with THAT, but it's an opinion taking hold.

Group 2 makes me squirm with how victim-blaming it is. There's a kernel-of-truth sounding argument about the victim not providing enough evidence at the start, but any time people defend FA this virulently my fairness module short-circuits and I assume it's all PR lies.

Hell, the LAST Grand Outage was ~4mo and it did jack to FA's usage, right?

Could this be the death of FA, or will people just come back, because you know, it's FA. Only time will tell.

Guide to responding to FA drama:

Day 1: FUCK FA
Day 2: Sign up at new site
Day 3: Feel smug
Day 4: Realise how much smaller the response is to new uploads
Day 5: Worry over precious view counts and comments
Day 6: Switch back to FA
Day 7: Forget anything ever happened.

And so it shall be, always has been, and always will be.

He is referring to Princess Piche and Sciggles:

Someone on lulz had this to say:

then he hent that noble prince by the hand,
and said "welcome my soueraigne King HENERY!
chalenge thy Herytage and thy Land,
that thine owne is, and thine shall bee."
