IIRC, Sean Piche valued FA at $3000, since that is what he strong-armed Jheryn into accepting for it. It's a bit rich to believe himself to be entitled to in excess of $50,000 now, especially given that FA is not self-supporting and what a shambolic condition the code and servers are in.
then he hent that noble prince by the hand,
and said "welcome my soueraigne King HENERY!
chalenge thy Herytage and thy Land,
that thine owne is, and thine shall bee."

And that's how you know it's not a matter of money, or even turning a profit. It's a matter of control, and popularity, plain and simple. With all of it's problems, I don't think he'll ever get an offer like that for FA again.

If by some slim chance Dragoneer was given a reasonable amount for FA, would he actually step down as head admin or from the site entirely?
He's way too dependent on his status as site owner to ever give up power, even if it means dragging the whole place down with his laziness.

My pipe dream: yet another hax0r comes along, finds yet another security hole, and yet again opens FA up wider than the Goatse man's anus. Said hax0r proceeds to...copy out the art files and database (not the notes or journals or forums, nobody except atrocity tourists gives a shit about them) and uses it to kickstart a new art site that is, you know, secure and reliable and run competently.

That's my pipe dream. I doubt it'll ever happen. But then I doubt Dragoneer'll ever willingly give up FA either. If someone offers $50k then he'll demand $100k, and if someone demands $100k he'll demand $1M, and so forth. It's not all about the Benjamins, it's all about the ego.

no, it is about dollars...eventually. He wants to make the site profitable so that he can show the detactors. He wants to be able to say "I told you so" and bask in its glory. Same with FAU, everything he touches, he turns into a LLC. But even that's about ego too. He'll whine about how terrible his life is going, and how he has all these grand ideas for FA, but has NO idea to implement them, and then he'll sit on them or FORGET, so when it's brought up that he promised x and never delivered, he gets all flustered and tries to shut people up.

He's so damn sensitive to ANYTHING negative said about him, it's rediculous. Two posts on the same issue in a negative vein is "massive drama" for him. Above 5 posts across the internet? "Everyone's riled up about it."

That's the main problem here. Dragoneer seemingly cannot stand as much as a single person questioning anything that he does; if his idea isn't good or something he's implemented seems stupid (hi there FA Knowledge Base running on paid software), then he writes off the criticism as "drama" and keeps himself wrapped in an aura of "haters gonna hate".

I've chatted with Dragoneer a few times, and I'd like to think I'm on friendly terms with him. He seems like a nice enough guy. But he needs to realize that a lot of the people criticizing him at this point aren't "haters" - they're people who like FA and want to see FA succeed, but know that it will not unless Dragoneer changes how he does things.

I tweeted this image at him yesterday, and I hope he gets the message:

You know, as much as I gripe about JIRA Studio, it would actually be a far better commercial hosted product for this kind of thing.  Jesus.

But, yeah, RT+RTFM would be far better suited for this kind of thing.
im glad the "I saw a furry IRL" thread is so good at bringing goons together

Maybe it should go without saying, but this isn't an excuse to be a rampant dick, as I suspect you want it to be.

The problem isn't that Dragoneer can't take personal insults; the problem is that he perceives personal insults where there are few or none, and rejects legitimate criticism in the process.

He rejects legitimate criticism if you don't "phrase it right" or kindly enough for him. He invokes the "tone" argument as a way of refusing to listen to anyone he doesn't want to listen to.

FA has some major flaws, and they're KNOWN flaws is the thing, and he and yak do nothing to fix them. It's like having a waterpipe crack and leak in your wall and instead of tearing down the wall and fixing it, you just keep throwing wallpaper over it in the hopes of it ceasing to exist if you can't see it's there.

Ha ha, oh wow. I just figured out if 'Neer would see that picture I tweeted at him or not; turns out, it's likely he won't - he blocked me on Twitter.

Another case of "if I don't see the criticism it doesn't exist LA LA LA LA LA I CAN'T HEAR YOU LA LA LA LA LA". Poor dumb bastard.

FA is beyond help at this point, the only thing you can do is douse the damn thing in gasoline and flick a lighted match at it, putting it out of its misery.

Guess you and he are not on good terms after all, Freehaven. Anyway, there are several lesser furry art sites out there. Which one would you all say would take most of the slack if FA collapsed under its own weight one day?

He blocked me a while ago for bringing up mostly similar complaints and occasionally being abrasive in tone.

I think Sofurry would in that case, with Inkbunny becoming a quick second place and Furocity being third, for those who know about it's existence. Let's not forget about Floof once it is up in running in the future.

Which is really funny considering how up in arms he got over your tweet pointing out this journal: http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/2084818/

If I had to take a guess? Inkbunny. Despite the "pedos run this place" vibe, it's a better-looking site than SoFurry, and it has some options (like selling prints/digital works) that SoFurry or FA don't. I really think that SoFurry and Inkbunny would both see a rise in usage, though.

He blocked me a while ago for bringing up mostly similar complaints and occasionally being abrasive in tone.

Yeah, he didn't exactly like it when I linked to this site a few weeks ago when the Miserable Users thing came to light - without contacting him about it first. (I'm sorry, I didn't realize I had to run all my links through you first, 'Neer.)

I don't hate 'Neer, I just realize that he's got a lot of issues. Hell, I have a lot of issues myself. But even I recognize that FA is being run in a haphazard manner that all but ensures its own demise. Dragoneer needs to pull his head out of his ass and face his responsibilities.

Oh, he did? I didn't know - for obvious reasons, of course.

It better not be SoFurry. Toumal'll probably provide sanctuary to that purple bastard.

Inkbunny would be just like any other furry art site if you simply add "cub" to the banned keywords list, if cub porn isn't your fancy. I hate it and that's what I did.

Anyhow, that TT thread by Arshes is still active and I'm scrutinizing it to see the responses. I'm also surprised there has not been one single public reply by Dragoneer on it either and I'm betting he will remain out of it out of fear of being hammered by criticism and flames.

It wasn't exactly in public. Let's just say he didn't like the wording of said journal, and used your tweet as evidence of a "huge amount of drama" in an attempt to have the journal reworded.

I wouldn't expect it at all. After all, from what was said, the entire thread is nothing but "Whiny Users"- not worth bothering with, according to him.
