Statistics was not technically required for my degree; however, I took two A-levels in Maths and Further Maths, which included several statistics modules. These were devoted to mathematics, not the use of statistics in research. My degree was fully focused on Computer Science, as is typical of degree programs in the UK.

There are clearly many possible biases involved in voluntary survey samples. The Internet surveys are correlated with the results from Anthrocon to confirm that one population is roughly equivalent to the other, and the standard methods for weeding out trivial attempts at disinformation are present. When you come up with something better, and which has sufficient rigor to make it into a peer-reviewed publication, let the researchers know.

The results hardly indicate a concerted attempt to defend the reputation of the fandom. Many partially confirm various stereotypes.

It goes both ways, though. Taking bad examples from the fandom and painting them as the norm is also an exercise in making disingenuous assertions.

As usual, the truth's somewhere in the shades of gray between the two.

According to Lulz denizens and  Furry Grapevine, it seems that IK finally got a boot from his job:

http://lulz.net/furi/res/1740361.html

And IK himself (going under name Scrooge McDuck, for those who don't know) confirms this:

Quote
Yes, it's true.

Someone who will not be named, who is on the DNH list, decided to insinuate the pittsburgh incident was more than what happened in the record.

They employer is basically paying me to "gtfo" where I currently live.

However, he didn't seem to learn a single lesson from this as he promises he will continue his crusade, when someone told him to think twice next time before trying to play the fandom's police:

Quote
Which I'll continue to report people to the FBI and get them placed under federal investigation.

Some people are just too dumb to live, let alone learn a single lesson in their lives.

I think we have a serious failure to understand the priorities of the FBI here.

Remember this is the same fandom that reports DDoSes and the leaking of private messages to the FBI as well.

For all the dumb shit so many furries do that put their jobs at risk on a daily basis, only IK could be extreme enough to actually bring karma down on his ass.

Actually, you know what? This isn't karma. Karma doesn't exist, as evidenced by the continued failure of Sean Piche to be a gap-toothed hobo under a freeway overpass. This is being so monumentally fucking insane that he basically WANTED to get fired. This is asking for it. And he got it.

FWIW, I find the notion that he got any kind of severance package to be hilarious. It's more like, "here's yer final paycheck, ever show up here again and we'll call the cops".

And this is also a lesson in why you, the lucky employed, lay low online in the furry fandom and DON'T use a name that can be identified. Because some random fucking psycho will start a never ending game of stalking/employer-telephone-bingo and you'll really regret it.

This is actually a really good reason not to be involved in furry period and actually be a successful human adult instead.

The sheer amount of hubris this guy puts forth is mind-blowing.

I love how, in his own mind, "you're a highly unstable person and we don't need your kind on our payroll" = "we like you so much we're going to pay you to do absolutely nothing until you find another job".

So later in the lulz thread the poster "Jude Prudence" seems to think he's been "had". Someone posts a weird, incoherent sentence about a "honeypot", which for lulz you'd probably just ignore but then Jude notices it and reacts:

Quote
I'm really hoping I just misread it and I haven't been emailing david ross all this time.

You don't really know what (or who) any of this stuff is on lulz, but it seems to me that "Jude Prudence" was trying to conduct some kind of e-mail ninja operation (the "Furry Grapvine" in the OP) on IK, and might have ended up falling into a trap set by IK to dox him or someone (or anyone) on lulz. Or maybe IK just is trying to fuck with lulz posters who are trying to dig up dirt on him.

I think there's a decent chance IK made all this up, but who fucking knows why or what part of some crazy bullshit scheme it was. It seems strange that an employer would learn about the two-year-old conceal-carry incident just now (as opposed to during a background check), be concerned enough to terminate the employee but still give him severance pay, which, unless I'm mistaken, is like a McDonald's fry cook having a company car. You just don't get that shit at his pay grade.

IK is pompous and self-important, yet stupid and brash enough to try to make people believe that he gets fucking severance pay when he gets fired from his low-level Cisco-monkey "job". He makes it sound like his employer's attitude is, "well, this is unfortunate, we have to do this (it's policy!) but we'll make it as easy on you as possible". Which just smacks of the fantasy world where everyone else regards IK as highly as he regards himself.

(Oh, and isn't the thing with severance pay usually you get it if for some reason they decide to let you go- downsizing or whatever- but if your stupid ass does something that makes them *fire* you- not so much? I mean, I know your CEO types don't necessarily have that sort of provision, but again, this is IK we're talking about here.)
