Vivisector acquires CYD

I wanted to wait until today to post this so people wouldn't think it was an April Fools gag.

31-March-2010: Vivisector.org has finalized a deal with the owner of CrushYiffDestroy.com to acquire rights to all logos, nomenclature, user lists, databases, and associated content.  Staff of Vivisector have chosen to simply shut down and redirect all CYD traffic for the time being while the backlog of data is sorted through.  Significant blog posts, articles, and other content may be integrated into Vivisector's site over the coming weeks.

That's it, folks.  We're all that's left.  As noted in the 'welcome' forum post, all former and current CYD members are welcome to join; we simply ask that you read the rules and familiarize yourselves with the way things work around here.  Additionally, we're always looking for quality writers to put together new material for the blog.  If you have any questions, please feel free to send a private forum message or email us: questions [at] vivisector.org

The 'animosity' has been and continues to be a bullshit filter to weed out people who can't take a little flak.  I'll continue to tell people to get the hell out on their first post; if they roll with it and stick around, all the better.

The lack of warning could not be avoided, though I agree that the timing wasn't the greatest.  But this deal has been in the works behind the scenes for quite some time now, and when we finally came to terms, well, Mitch took his two corn dogs and packet of mustard and headed for the hills.

As we have a policy against white noise posters, yes, Hirtes is banned.  This is not a free for all happy circlejerk like CYD was, it's more like the ironic upper class lowbrow furry observer that CYD was intended to be.  It never honestly tried to fulfill that reputation, which is why it all went to hell.  The unashamed furries, angry ancient relics, terrible smut peddlers and pedophiles ended up running most of the show, and god help me I will keep that from happening here even if I have to ban every last user and empty the forum entirely.

The person responsible for that travesty was known as Sharki on the late CYD forums. Good riddance, I say.

Oh well, no loss. Almost nothing was happening there except forum discussion about furry slang and dictionary definitions. Maybe important somewhere, I guess... but mostly it is a sign the place was dying.

What's most depressing is the lack of familiarity among those trying to comment on Viv.  There's a complaint that we have little in the way of information and history -- despite a few topics of history and a little history we've recorded as it happened.  We do say in an FAQ, "Vivisector Is:  A source of history and news about the furry subculture."  If there aren't enough articles and forum topics on the matter, then we do really urge others in the community to contribute.  And we may be weak on encouraging people to make the subculture a better place, but this is something I'd like to promote.  Furry101 (or whichever blog it was) likes to offer helpful tips like bathing and ways to color horse urine / construct fursuit heads, Wikifur serves as a tool to condemn past errors and perpetuate them into the future, I believe we can serve a positive niche in the community.

I personally don't see any reason for us to be anything beyond an outlet to point out the absurdities and ridiculousness inherent in such an incestuous, drama-laden, idiocracy as the furry fetish subculture.  And as far as performing that function, I think we've done so spectacularly.

Although some of the discussions on CYD got a little long-winded after a while, I hope there's still room for some reasonable discussion here as well. Not to the point of mind-numbing hair-splitting and semantics arguments, but it'd be a shame to be left with just a mocking board.

As for contributing articles, I wouldn't mind giving it a go. But I'd like to try for something that hasn't already been done for CYD or elsewhere. Are there any submission guidelines for that?

Discussion is perfectly fine; I think you'll see that most of the threads here, aside from the initial point-and-laugh aspect, are places to discuss the particular topic of the OP.  I just don't claim to be any sort of 'engine of change' as the folks over on Flayrah seem to think we are/should be.  I suppose there's an unwritten, implicit idea that if folks like us point out the aforementioned absurdities, then perhaps others will think twice before doing stupid things and/or posting about it on the Internet.  I don't personally believe such a thing is possible; hence why sites like CYD and Viv will always exist.  At the very least, we're better than the now-defunct lolfurries or a site like 'people of wal-mart', which exist purely for mockery. 

We point, we laugh, we discuss, and we wait for the cycle to begin again.

Also, if you have an idea for an article, by all means please PM myself, Kindrift, or Rodox; or if you have something written up, email articles at vivisector dot org.  Regardless of whether we like it or not, one of us is bound to give some constructive feedback, and we can go from there.

CYD had gotten really bad in the past few months (when there were any posts). Did you guys keep any of the content like those card images from the actual site (of random people like Quazl/etc?)

Not that I care that much but that was some really bad timing. But CYD was dying a slow horrible death.
