Considering like 90% of CYD's forum traffic lately was whatshisname talking about his retarded fox-in-college cartoon, I think putting it out of our misery was the best solution.

You mean my retarded plug that will get me banned if I bring it up again?

I wasn't plugging the show, I was just responding to Spip's post.  There's no need to get hostile.

Yes there is.

Things move on.  One thing I know would be way too much work, but might be good to preserve for the long-term, would be to comb through the old message threads, find observations about the fandom that were particularly concise, useful and/or funny, and make a "best of CYD" thing.  I miss the signal within the noise.

I certainly agree in principle but it may be easier said than done.  Plus it's pretty subjective on what constitutes a good thread.  I'll see what we can do, though.

For starters, the Hirtes thread where he bitched about Fluffball - and, for extra credit, the thread where he got banned for dropping my dox. :D

The Hirtes-rages-about-Fluffball thread really needs to be archived, because it's one of the bits that's managed to stay in his damned Wikifur article as an example of what he does and what he's like.

Even if no care is given to protecting artists from being ripped off, or Wikifur accurate (...pffffthahahahaha), well, it really pisses him off to have that stuff in there, which is a good enough reason to archive it for all time.

Archive all of ZenZhu's posts. :I

Seriously though, at least archive the soul rape/simpson thread. I can't think of anything else that major aside from the actual content the site used to have (CYD cards, don't remember what else)

Pretty much all of the featured articles were solid gold, though I'm assuming those are a given.  Don't know how relevant most of that info is anymore seeing how old it is, but it still makes for an interesting catalog of fandom history.

Whatever that's worth.

Archiving entire threads might be overkill, but having perhaps summaries with relevant quotes would be ok, like mini-articles themselves. You guys could have a directory with the bulk of the old CYD threads and even have anyone interested slog through all that stuff and submit them for approval. Might give some of the CYD regulars something to do while easing your guy's workload. That's a lot of stuff for just a couple of people to go through, and the CYD regulars would remember the more interesting events from before.

Well, we may have some potential for archiving of certain threads and such; I still need to see about the trading cards.  I'm not entirely certain if we'll be able to bring NOSOCS over, at least beyond some of the images that were already made.

You should see some more things showing up once the weekend hits and there is more collective free time to work on it.

IMO all internet forums should auto-delete threads that have been inactive for over a month. ;)

That said, if people like the idea of having old CYD forum threads at hand on Viv, the least work-consuming thing would probably be to port the Chit Chat and Atrocity Archive subforums (where all the on-topic stuff was) in their entirety to a read-only archive.

Any plans to host u63r's “How To Be A Furry”?

Probably, if I can find a copy of it.  The quick-n-easy system I've set up to go through the old articles is pretty lousy, and I should really be pulling the ones I've already done out of the list so it's a bit easier to manage.

I've asked Mondegreen to take a peek through the CYD front page blog things to see if there's anything there he thinks is worth noting and copying over.

For those of you who don't check the blog, the following old articles from The New Meat are now available for public consumption (from oldest to newest):

  • Newbie's Tale
  • Brother Bear
  • Furry Jesus
  • SOUL RAEP and LAWSUITES
  • Gene Catlow
  • West corner of the Park
  • Better Days
  • Kit 'n Kay
  • Jack
  • Postfurry
  • Canis Claxis
  • Guide to Furry Fixations
  • In A Perfect World
  • Nip and Tuck

Also, I'm not sure if he needs his own thread, but the four part series "Entities of the Furry Fandom" by "Weird guy in the corner" has been posted, as well as quite possibly the oldest archived example of calling out furry bullshit where it lives.  Those of you who never got around to reading these when they were on CYD, go take a look; they're all worth the read.

I have a copy of the old "How to be a Furry" thing, but it may take some time to tweak it just right for Viv.

"Entities of the Furry Fandom"

I remember reading these. Unfortunately, they're probably still accurate 4-5 years later. Jessica Elwood is a good exception, however. She undoubtedly has a ton of porn work on FA or wherever else... but I've only seen her stuff on DA, and she's progressed well.

Speaking of which, a follow-up on all of the artists mentioned in those articles would be an interesting read. The artists are such a huge deal to their butt-kissing fandom, that seeing where they are now in comparison to then can give insight (but probably disappointment). Who has moved on from the fandom (if any of them), who has improved, who has stagnated, and who has folded their gallery and LEFT THE INTERNET FOREVER (..for a week or two)?

I guess I could shut up and write something myself. I'll look up those artists in a bit and see what I can come up with. I'm not just thinking out loud, by the way... I don't fancy myself a writer at all, so if this idea appeals to anyone, go ahead and take it.

Well hey you're certainly welcome to write up something if you feel up to it.  And of course the section speaking about various art sites is woefully out of date and could use another glance.

And, of course, as noted in the 'The New Meat' thread, a number of his articles could use some follow-ups.  I've been pestering him regularly to make a brief comeback.
