I don't think anyone's brought this up yet, but who suspects that with all this talk of the database and preserving it and ect, that they totally dropped the ball and all the porn and shitty music and stuff is toast?

Wouldn't surprise me in the least, honestly.

Then they would absolutely be pulling a Yerf on this whole thing.  gg FA way to use Dingo as a mentor on how to run an art site.

So, according to the best estimates, FA's going to be back up in August.

And despite the fact that the site is still down (and likely will be for the duration of the con), the FA-centric furcon FurAffinity: United is still going ahead as scheduled.

So they can put on a furcon, but they can't get the site that gives the con its name back up?  That's pretty goddamned sad.

I can't help but think the funniest fucking thing to come out of this would be if someone went and stole the new fucking server out of whoevers house while they were all dicking around at a con.
I mean it's not like it's unknown that it's an extremely expensive piece of hardware, and that they'll all be leaving for a weekend.

$16K in donations, paid directly to Dragoneer.  Despite looking for work he's sitting on money paid for unfinished artwork and throwing a bit around on Furbuy.  And unlike the FA forums, I can actually post that here.
What if the pentagon has stored lost data of porn and yiff in it's data, has anyone over there saved about millions of porn data and art in it's computer drive? tell me more about the facts what they have in your opinions!

In summary, the three servers they've bought would work much better if they were each two much cheaper servers.  If they had even an experienced network tech designing this system it'd be four times as robust and twice as fast for half the price, no exaggeration.

They gotta learn somehow.  either you learn to do more with less, or in their case, they will learn to do less with more, after they've pissed away lots of money on gamer crap...

I'll take your word for that, since you're the expert on pissing away money.

Anyway, Kindrift is sadly right. Let's watch all 3 of these sites, each of which have incompetent admins and egocentric figureheads, battle it to the death.

If I weren't an expert on pissing money away I would have nou grounds to make that statement...   I had to learn it the hard way.  But as I have learned.  The older I get the less the younger people will listen to me.  They all have it all figured out they say!

Quote from: yak
Working on bringing the services back online. Apart from that there is still code fixing work left to be done.

The only estimate is that FA will most probably be back by FA:U or a day later.

Quote taken from the FA forums; emphasis is mine.  Well, it's sad (not "BAWW I NEED MY FURPORN FIX" sad, but "Jesus fucking Christ..." sad) that there's still the possibility that the site will be down while the con named for it goes on, but the real kicker about this announcement is about the "code fixing".

FA needs code fixing?  Could've fooled me.

Next thing you know, they'll be telling the sky is blue, grass is green, and I need to kill myself.

Can anyone explain how in any universe, reality, mythology, or MMO it matters if FA is up during the convention?  They're competing (lawl) with Anthrocon, and AC doesn't even have a community (lawl) website.  Though statistically at every convention they've had so far, Gayfar has accidentally given admin access to some spastic furry -- so it might be a good idea to keep it offline while Pinkuh is distracted and trying to be important, while the staff is busy soliciting oral sex and not paying attention to the site.

Think Yak can run the site by himself and cyber Xenofur at the same time?

Trackback: Technical analysis of the FA trainwreck/featureset.

The con is run by different people. The sad part is though, more money will be donated and promptly wasted on incorrect hardware than the FA:U selected charity can ever hop to get.

Through the giant hole in their heads.  Y'know, the one that they've apparently dug right through their brains.

Recently, Preyfar was interviewed by a very large number of homosexual banner adverts: "May I present to you, talented artist, owner and lead admin of the biggest furry art community website, fantastic digimon, Dragoneer!"

And as we're in the business of publicizing comments about FA by current and former staff, here's ex-coder Crypto explaining his tenure.  Spot the troll who's still typefucking Preyfar, which poster could that be... anyway, it's back from early July, but it's worth noting.

Quote from: Bobby
Also I got an ASUS PC-DL based dual Xeon desktop system last week, for free, with the exact same hardware that FA's original server contained.

I was still having to pay $500-800 each for the HP DL380 G4s that were the machines I told Jheryn/Preyfar to buy in 2006. Those have redundant RAM, CPU, disks, hot-swap PCI, redundant power supplies, remote management... they're STILL better machines than FA is running on right now.

FA's current status:

Quote from: Yak
Data server has been installed in the colo.
RAM upgrades have been installed in the database server.

Data server's OS has been performance tuned (kernel parameters for tcp stack/file system).
Environment has been set up.
Server software installed and configured.
90% of the user data moved from the old server.

Database server tuned to take in account the additional RAM.
Unexpected startup/shutdown performance problems with MySQL noticed and corrections applied.

--

Technically Fur Affinity can be online in 4 hours.
But the website is going to stay offline for the process of merging in the code updates related to improving database efficiency, and the interface changes that are related to the new database schema.

The process may take up to three days, but the final deadline of FA's comeback is Monday morning.

Our apologies for the extended downtime. It is, among other things, pretty embarrassing and we wish to end it just as much as you folks if not more.

Yeah, I'd imagine that having your server go boom when you've had a fair number of people telling you that it's your own damn fault for using the wrong hardware, then using $16,000 to buy hardware that people are STILL saying isn't suited for your purposes, can be pretty goddamned embarassing.

But at least they're using the time effectively, right?  I mean, SURELY they're having their coders working on fixing FA's numerous problems before the site comes back up...right?

Where's Yak gonna find the time to code in his schedule, around arguing in every LiveJournal criticism of FA, banning people from the forums for talking about FAP, sneaking around his FAP ban, typefucking Xenofur, etc?  He's clearly not had the time to research any hardware or network design in the last two months, nor has he been able to catch a moment to do all these software updates while the site was down.  Busy guy.
