    Apparently it's been an open secret among his friends and cohorts. Nobody seems to know exactly what he did or how much time he did for doing it. His defenders say the whole affair was a tragic misunderstanding of some kind, a claim that is uh, somewhat difficult to back up.

    Furrydumb tends to look like one of the safer sexual subcultures out there, seeing as how there's not that many of them in the world and they tend to be more solitary than most perverts. People like Kahuki here serve as a grim reminder that this is not always the case.

    Bizarre twist: Kindrift, the person who found all this out in the first place, first posted about it on Crush Yiff Destroy. For some reason he was banned and the thread was deleted. No, I don't get it either.

The latest Clawcast episode discusses Kahuki, even if they are a month late, bless their little hearts.  They run with the sanitized lie the ColoFurs give to the younger members which claims that Kahuki was about 23 and his boyfriend was just under the age of consent.  Simple mathematics don't bear this since he was 30 at the time of conviction, but whatever, since all turns out well in the end.  Cairo over at Furry Digg pushed RMFC staff for an official statement and was denied, but apparently did get the convention staff to start thinking about this potential land mine.  This update via Furry Digg, which for some mystery reason cites Clawcast as the originator of the entire debacle.

Better late than never.  Conjecture and rumor thinks that Anthrocon staff might have pushed RMFC to make the right decision.  Community image and all.

I think it's more of a function of being able to hide that sort of thing more effectively.  'Furry' as a whole exists primarily on the Internet, where this sort of information is bound to leak and spread like wildfire, and *gasp* non-furries could find out.  Ten years ago this would've been a non-issue, quietly swept under the rug like so many altar boys.

I wasn't denied a statement. When I asked Kahuki for one, he told me officially the RMFC said "no comment" but as an aside to that he did mention he was stepping down, so... I actually knew a couple of weeks before the newsletter broke. Go me.

I was kind of sad to hear it though. The only two people really knew what happened about this whole sex offender thing; Kahuki and the other party. If it was over something stupid such as in cases of let's say a 17-year-old messing with a 20-year-old, stepping down only gives further evidence that the broken registered sex offender process "works." While every parent and neighbor should be warned that potential offenders are in the area, currently they are not given enough information to develop a good opinion of how much of a threat the person poses.

The registry lists Kahuki's age during time of offense as 30. Assumably, all three counts happened at the same time or during the same year.
