"Nearly all" of FA:U's "shit" thrown away by mistake
« on: March 06, 2014, 01:27:15 am »
So, after hooting and hollering for months about how bad their last apartment was, Sciggles and Dragoneer took to the internet today because their new apartment threw out everything in their storage unit by mistake. Apparently, some bad record keeping (strangely ironic) led to the management believing the contents of the storage unit were those of a previous tenant.

Sciggles posted on FA that they threw away all her Bronycon merchandise (truly a tragedy):
Quote
Well the worst thing just happened....I was having a terrible day...Decided to walk Odin and I saw a man with a bunch of boxes near our storage room. I tried not to assume it was ours so I walked by again really quick and saw my things out on the ground. HE WAS GOING THROUGH OUR STORAGE UNIT. He is on the maintenance staff and he was looking through my Lilo and Stitch Lithographs.

Apparently they had bad paperwork and even though we ALL SIGNED FOR IT they did not have a record of it being in our name. So it was under a guys name that was evicted so they started THROWING ALL OUR STUFF AWAY.

Laptops, Holiday Ornaments, Personal Documents, Artwork, CONVENTION ITEMS, Printers, Monitors, MORE ARTWORK.

EVERYTHING I had that I was going to use for BronyCon and other conventions was thrown into the TRASH COMPACTOR and ruined. NOTHING was left of my artwork.

I am going in and out of panic attacks and crying and I have a convention in a WEEK. I don't know what to do...All my work is gone.

**
After looking at our records from Bronycon they threw out at least 4,620 worth of art and merch. More was lost but that is what we had inventory for.

Sciggles also let fly that they are in debt.
Can has out of debt and house get please?
Hard to imagine why this might be. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. Certainty it couldn't be from bankrolling a floundering furry porn website, art commissions, and a vanity con.

Despite "nearly all" of their supplies being lost, Dragoneer claims this won't affect FA:U. Please remember this when it does.
@AzureParagon It won't affect FAU, even though we lost a lot of stuff (con shirts, labcoats, lanyards, some gear). FAU will be fine.

Isn't FA:U run by a corporation?

Why would two people have a corporation's assets in their personal name?

Most corporations that run cons rent storage facilities in the name of the convention corporation, they don't use their old house that they were evicted//left from's storage unit.

FA:U was brought under Ferrox Art, LLC. a few years ago. Based on what has been learned before, I'd say the convention couldn't afford it's own storage since they have a habit of spending as much as they can on ridiculous stuff and adding sponsor perks, running as close to the red as possible. There was even one year they couldn't even afford to give one of the sponsor perks!

He used to keep the FA:U stuff at his parent's house, but I guess they got tired of the pile of shit sitting there 358 days of the year.

...or he threw it all away himself to justify another donation drive.

Of course they would. What else are you suggesting they do, pocket it?

That's... odd. Anyone know why they do that? It has a certain amount of risk for how they're organized. Like, IRS risk. Most cons try to run right on the edge so as to not make enough profit to run afoul of the authorities.... Businesses can have the opposite problem.

Do we know for certain that FAU operates like other cons?  I was under the impression it fell within the FA LLC, at which point they could just shift any 'profit' from the con into operating costs for the site.

They don't. Non-profit cons like to run it on the edge so they don't get accused of making too much 'profit'. You'd think Piche would want to run FA:U at a profit and pour that back into his rack of toys.

If they're intentionally running a hobby as a business and making it break-even or a loss for tax purposes, that's a huuuuuge no-no, is my point.

You know, I actually wouldn't be surprised if this IS what's happening. "Running out of money" could just mean they've gotten close to or dipped below some arbitrary set amount that they're shifting over to operate the site.

That seems like the kind of thing Dragoneer would do.

Also of note, they've stopped using Gavin's registration system and website and switched to Eventbrite. Maybe Gavin got tired of those two stomping around crying about FurFright/the Dorsai being mean to them?
