A correction for the other thread:
Ben was still on the staff when Weasyl went into Open Beta, and from what I've learned from different staffers, it was Ben's decision to move to Open Beta ... It shouldn't have been in Closed Beta when it was, either, and that has been attributed to him as well, trying to ride some sort of hype by giving people a broken website.
By the Open Beta launch (the one on Valentine's Day) Ben was no longer on staff, and couldn't possibly have influenced this decision.
You're probably confusing this with the Closed Beta launch, which Ben was around for. For my part, as the person in charge it was incredibly foolish of me to have not delayed the launch until more technical help was brought on and the glaring issues fixed, despite the pressure to release on schedule; that ultimately falls on my shoulders.
What you have already said about the early Closed Beta though is a fair assessment, but fortunately the users were generally patient and understanding of these early problems.
