Over the past few weeks, numerous threads (10+) have popped up on FA's Site Support forum, reporting problems uploading avatars or submissions. In just the past month, there have been something like 50 individual users (both new and old, but mostly new) reporting this problem, and only one reply from staff. One.
The issue with uploading the avatar is technical in nature. It boils down to some users having an avatar folder to upload their files to while the others not.
Yesterday I wrote and ran a script to retroactively fix all missing avatar (and other) folders for all user accounts on FA. The cause of the missing folders however has not yet been fixed so newly registered accounts will still experience this problem.
The fix for the root problem is complete, but requires some testing. This will take a few days.
That was more than a week ago,
after they removed an admin notice with some "fixfolders" link in it. Of course, in the past week Yak has found plenty of time to
play Team Fortress 2 but none to finish "testing" the fix to whatever is breaking in FA's extremely broken filesystem setup.
It's worth noting that FA seems to pay little attention to problems that affect new users, you may remember when registration was disabled for more than half a year so a captcha and email verification could be added to it.
Good thing they threw out Ferrox! This pile of PHP shit is
really working out great!
