This is very interesting and once again shows how FA will only do things when they become A Problem.

So it seems that FA user Kitstaa has been banned yet again, which I think makes the third or fourth instance? According to the bottom shout, it was for making a non-serious comparison meme (http://29.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lvn7314aUb1qbn0rko1_500.png) and for having a joke ID about Foxmas that was relatively harmless. Basically, humour is a bannable offense on FA now.

Although that's not the entire story-- Apparently, one of the admins got "offended" at the user's use of the word nigga, even though it is 100 percent evident that the user is indeed black, and this has already happened once before.

Didn't one of the hacks from earlier in the year show there's a record of admin actions kept on every user's page? Shouldn't there be some sort of warning not to ban him for merely using the word when he is indeed black himself? Unless of course the order was passed down from Browder, FA's only black admin, in which case the situation probably played out something like that episode of 30 Rock where Tracy calls Toofer his nigga.

Of course, this has caused a pretty significant uprising in the userbase, with supporters adopting "Free HY" avatars and posting journals on the matter, and leaving shouts on the user's page  blasting the administration.

And then, in the past few hours, all the comments made on the user's page since they were banned over the weekend have mysteriously disappeared, and trying to post one results in this message:

Shouting has been disabled on this user's page.

As of six hours ago, Dragoneer had "no idea" what someone was talking about when referring to this whole debacle. Fascinating that a feature can be added to his website in mere hours to silence people who are up in arms about something he has no idea about. Or maybe Yak just has more power than a developer should have.

For your consideration: I made a post to FD_2 today (before I knew what the "offensive" submissions were) and Dragoneer PM'd me on FA within the hour to defend...his tweet, and absolutely nothing else.

He's currently defending himself not anywhere that the public would think to look, but on one of Bucktown Tiger's journals.

I see he's also defending the second big thing today, the deletion of animated .gif's made from photography for being "live action videos".

Ironically, the "down.furaffinity.net" page features a 1.5MB animated photo .gif. If the admins upload it, it's zany and wacky, but if a user uploads it they're uploading horrible bandwidth-using "videos".

As per usual, there's equal chances that Piche is just casually lying or that he really has no idea. I get the idea that Yak really doesn't care to play user-wrangler, and I doubt he'd listen to one of the admins asking for such a thing. So I'm gonna guess Piche is lying, but who knows.

Anyone else feel like the way they treat words as "magic", completely disregarding all context, is straight out of 3rd grade recess? The bigger a site, the less you can apply judgement to things, but this seems really dumb.

On the other hand, race is a funny thing within furry. Furry is full of poorly-socialized geeks who get extremely uncomfortable around people who are not like them.

Wait. They just made it so that they can prevent shouts from being posted to certain pages that are closed down (since they can't, LOL, delete them). I thought this would have been considered a necessary site-administration function from the beginning.

Up until now, admins would just post a BOLD ALL CAPS RED MESSAGE in the shouts saying things along the lines of "users leaving harassing shouts will be banned".

It rarely worked.
