Unrest in the West
« on: September 26, 2011, 02:15:16 am »
Rainfurrest wrapped up hours ago, amid drama involving two incidents that took place earlier in the day.

The one making news now involves the Seattle Hilton shutting down the dead dog party at 10:30, kicking "the Guest of Honor" (there's four, though it's implied it's artist TaniDaReal) out of the bar due to an "ID issue", and being "hall nazis" (How dare they keep people from making noise in the halls!!!). According to posts on Twitter, it seems furries saw this as some sort of "fursecution" and the police had to be called in to get them to cooperate.

Earlier in the day, the pool was closed after someone poured suds into it and the hottub. This probably is one of the many reasons the staff were being "douches" and kicked the convention out at 10:30.

Of course, most furries are blaming the hotel for everything, calling on the convention to move hotels, and are presently trying to conduct a "silent con" in the lobby. At this rate, I wouldn't be surprised if the hotel just told them to GTFO and never return.

Since the concept of personal responsibility is foreign to most furries, is it any real surprise that they think the hotel staff are being jerks?

The people who got Rainfurrest kicked out of the hotel should be the ones that get all the scorn, but it's just going to be "fursecution OMFG" from all of those idiots.

Awww, why did I have to miss all the fun?

For what it's worth, I believe they have a multiyear contract with their hotel. I'll see what I can find out...

I believe TaniDaReal is a German national, which might explain the issue with the drinking age.

It looks to me like it's just "silverwuffamute" trying to play hero to the furry resistance. Because that always works so well.

For what it's worth, I believe they have a multiyear contract with their hotel.

Some such contracts have a period shortly after each instance in which either party can decide to cancel it, in case it doesn't work out.

Sure, but this isn't so much a case of the hotel 'not working out', it's another clear case of furries not understanding the concept of 'overstaying one's welcome'

I'm really not seeing how this is so bad that talk of changing hotels is more than just butthurt 19-year-olds mad that the cops were called on their faggotry.

But then, the Western Conference has quite a standard to live up to.

It's definitely not on the level of the elevator incident at FC, but a Hilton and a furry convention do seem like strange bedfellows.

Apparently, there was two bubbles-in-the-pool incidents (because they failed the first time), as well as some issues with people drawing porn with chalk outside the hotel.

I always feel sorry for any hotel staff that has to clean up after furries. Whenever I hear stories like this or Anthrocon with the turds, semen, ten tonnes of pizza boxes, kitty litter, broken elevators, and just the way furries treat the hotel staff like it's them doing the hotel a favour, it makes me both sad and disgusted at the same time. It's like furries, as some others have expressed in this thread, have absolutely no sense of cordiality or manners or even the slightest bit of respect, either for themselves or the hotel staff.

Who thinks about putting bubbles into a pool or a hot tub?? Who gets indignant when you actually get in trouble for making noise in a rest haven where there are other people than yourselves trying to enjoy their stay there? Only children cry when they get smacked on the bottom and furries act like they've never been out anywhere.

I find it funny they want to be so respected and seen as "normal" in the eyes of the public, but they act like complete park apes whenever they get outside.

That's hardly fair to the park apes.

A lot of them probably haven't.

This is pretty much a classical case of furries getting all riled up and jumping to conclusions.  The hotel is thrilled with the convention and its General Manager did apologize for his Manager on Duty kicking the people out Sunday night.  This hotel shares sales teams with the Doubletree down the street, so they know what they're getting into, and from what it looks like, nothing was unexpected.

Now, as for the attendees...  I really wish furries could understand how to exist outside their little furry bubble, and deal with the real world, but apparently not.  Maybe next year we will be more together about keeping track of the idiots and kick them out sooner.

Yes, this is how these things are "supposed" to go. Of course, it's not supposed to happen, period, but when it does (a major customer is treated wrongly), there is an apology, it is accepted, and we move on. I don't know the specifics but it could very well be that given what they knew at the time it was the right call. But out of professional courtesy the top management will express regret nonetheless. There's a bit of a ritual quality to this sort of thing in the "hospitality" industry.

I still don't think for a large gathering of young males this is really all that bad. Soap suds in the jacuzzi, minor ID issues around alcohol- this could have been a company convention or something. Okay, maybe not that but I dunno, a gaming convention or something? Furries know how to really trash a hotel and make themselves completely unwelcome when they want to, and this wasn't that.

The "story" is the outsize reaction by the peanut gallery. Which isn't notable for furries at all.

In my stint doing security near the stairs, I had the chance to speak with one of the hotel staff, asking what he thought about 'the freaks'. He said it wasn't much worse than the anime conventions that go on there.

Then the next day I was paraded past him in collar and ears, leashed by my boyfriendAnyway, yeah, I agree that this is a case of furries overreacting and screaming 'fursecution' for really fucking minor slights.

Though the suds in the Jacuzzi is particularly un-classy. I'm sure some furry thought it would be cute to do a POOL'S CLOSED thing like that.
