I suppose it's become a bit 'in' to be pink. Breast cancer awareness whatever is at a peak, from the simple ribbons to cakes that promise a share of proceeds to research for a cure. Apart from the fact that it's a bit twisted to prey upon people's sense of charity to make up crappy goods and give a slim bit to unknown organizations, it has also yet to provide a cure. More than a few women's groups have been very vocal about this.

So we don't need furries fucking this up to boot. Not that I have anything against charity, but some random furry loser artist doubling their prices and promising half of it to cancer research isn't only a bit shaky, but also fairly uncharitable. If one were serious, they'd maintain the original price and donate all or most of it. This is just a grab to sell more to make more profit, using breast cancer as a boogieman to do so.

I think we touched on this before, but furries and charity only get along on a superficial level. It seems the more 'good' someone does, the less likely they are to do it for the right reasons. This is no different in my mind.

On this subject, I've always been rather curious just how much of the funds from the 'charity auction' most (all?) the conventions have actually makes it to the charity du jour.  Most of the con chairs don't seem smart enough to skim off the top without getting caught, but there are some people I wouldn't put it past to try.

Also I tend to agree with your final sentiment.  To reference 'charity auctions' again, the artists only seem to donate work for the notoriety, and the buyers buy it because...well, the same reason they buy any other porn.

The whole overblowing of the importance of the day among the fandom seems too much like just another excuse to draw tits, and to gain money and fame over it. That said, I wouldn't say that it's fair to tar all the furries with the "ulterior motive" brush. I am pretty sure there are a couple of us among the fandom who help those in need without expecting anything in return...or so I hope.
