Figured this should be separate from the Furileaks stuff and whatnot.

FA broke again tonight, it's spitting out this error page when you try to visit it. I like how it directs you to the site status forum which is offline. (EDIT: not like you could access it anyways, it looks like that's timing out now from the influx of people trying to get on FA. Firefox returned a "The page you are trying to view cannot be shown because it uses an invalid or unsupported form of compression." error this time though)



No word from the official Twitter, either, but the fake FA twitter has already gotten a response out.

That Twitter actually halfway to being funny. It could be a lot funnier (nastier), but given the way things have gone I will take what I can get.

So, apparently they can only restore the database part of the nuked submissions.

So, for those of us keeping track at home:

• They got hacked. Twice.
• Instead of shutting shit down, they let the attacks continue.
• 10 days later, they manage to fatfinger a database restore, losing comments.
• Two weeks later, they still haven't gotten around to restoring the missing content, and don't appear to have a way to restore the files

So, uh, nobody over there can tell their ass from a hole in the ground, part 3298927893.

To add to the amusement (at least, I find it amusing), just after it went down last night I started seeing a whole lot of logs of people googling the terms 'furaffinity down'.  So we're apparently a better source of news about FA's status than FA itself.

Well, let's recall here Adam Wan's particular history with FA art submissions: around the time Keovi broke up with him he went whoring for sympathy on Twitter and in an FA journal, and ended up instead with trolls harassing him. In a fit of rage he "nuked" his FA account—since we all know that isn't actually possible what he actually did was move all of his submissions to scraps and replace them all with a black square. That would have gotten most people banned, but not Adam.

It's possible that's what he's referring to when he says he needs to restore his gallery.

Yea, I think Dragoneer stated this somewhere before. Probably the FA LJ. They can only restore the DB part, the user will still have the provide the actual submission itself for it to be fully restored.

So for those who no longer have the file stored on their computer, they're shit out of luck. Oopsie.

I have a feeling they'll just give up doing the submission restore thing for the folk who had their gallery wiped, because it's "too hard" aka it means they'll actually have to do some fucking work.

It's 2011, and we hope that everybody had a good, festive holiday season! A lot of things have happened on FA, and we're shifting gears on a few projects an re-focusing on the site. It's been a rough past few weeks, but we're hoping to more than make it up to the community over the course of the new year!

This is not the news people need to hear. It's more of the same "we're working hard, give us asspats, see how much I (am hoping to) care about the COMMUNITY" fuckery.

The reason FA goes down constantly is because they have no redundancy.

Normal people with stand-alone systems do things like "scheduled downtime", but not FA! Dragoneer probably does this because uptime is very important to him. Little things like "yak fatfingers a database name and loses a bunch of comments" don't actually take the thing "down" as such, so it doesn't count.

Anyway. I guess I'll throw some of my collected FA fuckups into a post later.

Please pardon our dust as we are restoring the forums. We did lose data and we sincerely apologize for our negligence. There are still structural changes in our staff listing, so please do not think this is a final listing of staff during this process. I personally apologize for not turning the forums on sooner for our users to enjoy. I had limited time during the holidays to work on matters before going live. I'm not sure I can really credibly complain about this. Compared to the fiasco that was on the main site, this almost seems reasonable.

meh, whatever. It looked enough like him and it was 5AM.

Also, apparently it was a database problem:

Site is back up. We're still looking into what happened - database server had to be restarted.

Database encountered another issue. We are taking time to backup the file while we investigate further.

We apologize for the issues earlier. One of the DB tables broken, and bogged down the rest of the site. It has been fixed.

At least they backed it up this time.
