Furpiled goes under?

Pi asked me to start a thread over here for this so here you go.

As of this morning, Furpiled.com is giving 403 errors. Could just be broken. Could have run out of fun dollars like FAP did. Any thoughts?

I asked. Apparently it's just that the current hosting is too expensive, so they've shut it down and are moving to a new VPS ($100/month vs. $30/month).

Sure glad they communicated that to everyone in a professional manner before pulling the plug. Oh, and if I read your article right, it's not that he's found $30/mo. hosting, it's that he wants it. I dunno, seems unlikely that you could get web hosting for less than you could get, say, a reasonable residential Internet connection.

I've never messed with the stuff, so I don't know. But he's asking for donations, so it sounds like the OP's speculation that they've run out of money is probably approaching accurate.

He's found one option, but is considering it among others. It's roughly equivalent to Linode's 768 offering, just with 512Mb RAM but more disk space and transfer.

$30/month hosting is adequate for many sites - indeed, most could make do with far less. Whether it will do for a moderately popular furry imageboard remains to be seen.

I looked into Linode once, and I seem to remember it being a lot more expensive than that. But then again, I'm cheap, so maybe it was just me.
