A furry by any other name
« on: November 14, 2010, 11:03:53 pm »
A Pennsylvania judge won't let a man change his name to 'Boomer the Dog'.

This had led to much furry waaahing, and a lot of ire from other pennsy furries who obviously have dealt with him before. Much WON'T SOMEBODY THINK OF THE FANDOM ensued, mostly from Kittrel.

And a lot of supportive crap from FA.

Also, the 'sperg alarm should be going off in spades for this guy.

Didn't some other ridiculously-named furry get granted a name change a few years ago?  Something generically furry like 'foxxfire' or summat?

I was going to say something about pretty much guaranteeing you'd never get a job ever with a name like that, but something tells me this guy couldn't get a job regardless.

I think the shredder paper fursuit pretty much says he's not the type to find work. Not to mention it's a bit like a vanity plate when applying for a new name, you don't really have a 'right' to what you want. It's strictly legal identification, a judge says no, oh well. If he had gone with Boomer Dogg, he likely would have gotten it, the cartoon character setup is probably what is messing him up.

He's appealing this shit? Seriously? His email is hilarious. Furry Affinity? Improved? If anything it's gotten worse this year...

And many of the other email people are right. Furries are always concerned about the press the fandom gets and then they go pull stupid shit like this? Especially in Pittsburgh. Not only are they holding their annual freak convention in town (run by that ridiculous guy in the lab coat), they're after your kids, too! Oh, and they're also trying to change their name to "Boomer the Dog".

I say let him keep the name. If crazy assholes want to change their name to something stupid, the easier it will be to find a news item about them when they get caught molesting their dog/neighbor's child/get shot by a farmer/ etc,etc..
