Once again, our dearly beloved FA has gone dead - supposedly 'moving servers' again - no doubt leading to dozens of unjerked cocks the world over.  For two whole days, even!  There's a blurb about it over on furryne.ws, but fuck if I'm going to link to them; you lazy bastards can just copypasta the URL yourselves.

Perhaps the best part of said blurb is the following:

Which begs the question:  How crappy a programmer do you have to be that php5 breaks your code?  I mean, honestly, the biggest difference is that php5 plugs up some common security hol....oh.

When I did this huge security analysis for FA, I went over to Crypto's place (we live in the same state) and basically, with my new account on the FA team, I downloaded the source to my computer and took a look at it.

Jheryn's code is so bad I was yelling out loud and had to take breaks every so often because I got depressed. SOFTWARE IS NOT SUPPOSED TO ELICIT AN EMOTIONAL REACTION OF ANY KIND.

I have sources to back up how I reacted to reading the code. I swear to god it's so fucking terrible. That's why we're pretty much rewriting it from the ground up-- there's no way to salvage this piece of shit.

So don't worry, the site is protected by a hairy frowning European man.  The beta test site is up and running here, and it actually looks really good, pretty fast and stable with a lot of good art on the front page.  Oh wait, the beta test site is actually here, and it's currently down.

Wait, wait, are you seriously telling me that someone actually wrote that from scratch?  I'm having a seriously difficult time believing that, given how incredibly similar it is to Deviant and Sheezy.  I can believe the old art sites were done from scratch - VCL is obviously a ground-up effort, and I've seen some of the old Yerf code (if you think the code behind FA is unbelievably bad, you haven't seen anything.  Yerf was a mishmash of at least 3 languages.  It was using C for god's sake!).  But in today's age of forums and CMSes that require naught but a gunzip and a database, I simply cannot believe that someone like Jheryn actually sat down and wrote a functioning (albeit poorly) art archive entirely from the ground up.  There has to have been some base GPL'd gallery app that he absolutely fucking destroyed tried to 'enhance'.

It's called DevoyBB, and oh wait, jheryn wrote that from scratch too. I've never used it, but it's probably a shitty PHPBB clone.

(If they actually had money to take me to court for reproducing their shitty code archive, I'm sure the judge would rule in favor of GPL and derivative works (which none of the FA staff also seem to be able to understand, but that's a different story))
