All in all, he's been doing this for 10 years. He's put in his time. Whether or not he's funny, at this point, is beside the point; talent can only take you so far. The guy's proven, at the very least, he's got persistence. And that persistence has earned him a fanbase that would literally suck his dick just to say they had. This is something any performer would kill for, and he's not satisfied with that, which also says good things about him.

So it doesn't matter if he's funny as long as he sticks with it? People like you are the reason Carrot top and Robin Williams can still get headliner billing. Also the only reason he's 'persistent' is because he was a fixture at AC from being fuckbuddies with Conway. It's not like he's actually competing with any other stand up comics at your local con.

he doesn't have part 3:
being funny

Boy, you didn't read the rest of the post. (Not surprising. Bit wordy.)

This guy did, though.

In a word, yes. I've seen lot's of funny guys appear at an open mic, tell some decent jokes, then never show up again. I have no respect for those people. Then there are comedians who's jokes I could care less for, some who've even died horribly onstage, but keep coming back. Those guys are my heroes.

That being said, you bring up some interesting points here.

I did not create the rules; I simply follow them. This is the industry. Being a fixture because you're fuckbuddies with the guy in charge is not unique to Anthrocon. That's how the world works. If you got off the fucking Internet and participated in life you'd understand this. Okay, that was a cheap shot.

Surely I can use PoE as a good source? Here.

Holy crap. That's a lot of furry gatherings.

Yeah, he's not competing with any stand ups at "my local con" this year. He already did that over half a decade ago.

You put in the time, you reap the benefits, my friends.

(In this case, benefits are never having to visit Oklahoma again. Unless he just really wants to. Which would be weird.)

Basically, I'm starting up at the opposite end of the spectrum (yes, I'm in stand up myself, doing local open mics in the, ugh, Midwest, getting some attention from local professional comics, but in the, you know, Midwest), so I'm hoping the guy makes it, if only because it opens the door for me a bit as well.

So there will be more people performing shitty tired routines? Really? Because that's what I want to spend my $15 bucks and drink tab on.

You know what, Never mind because if you suck its better for the club owner, more drinking to kill the awful noise coming from the stage.

Furry Comedy is like AIDS, Not enough people get it and it rots you from the inside out.

If you work the clubs, then you know its do or die every night, because if you don't kill, you don't eat, and 2's rant routine has been done before, not to mention 100x better.

Here's 2's routine in a nutshell:

SCREEECH, NERD SOUNDS, COMPUTER JOKE, CUSSING, HAVE YOU EVER, DONT YOU HATE, BLAH BLAH BLAH YOU SUCK YOU SUCK THATS MY 2 SENSE
70% of Mac owners are idiots who crow about the superiority of their platform, yet cannot even fix their own machines.

I vomited a little in my mouth when I realized this sounds like a defense of Carlos Mencia.

Funny, I was thinking the exact same thing.

This whole thing just smacks of someone trying to live vicariously through others.  Also comedians who just 'keep on trying' despite having no talent, originality, or inherent humor is what caused stand-up comedy to die a horrible, horrible death in the 90s.  The talent was awful, and the audiences were awful, and at the risk of sounding like I'm quoting a Patton Oswald bit, the whole scene needed a mass extinction.

Protip: 'A' for effort only works in kindergarten and special ed.  A baker who makes cakes that taste like shit doesn't earn any points for 'sticking with it' if his cakes continue to taste like shit.

That's also how Dat Phan won the 1st season of Last Comic Standing.

Yeah... I'm still bitter.

Actually, he probably won because he was young and not bad looking. Which is probably also why Jon Heffron won the second season, despite actually being talented. That being said, I am still bitter too ... (About Dat Phan. Not Jon Heffron.)

I really find it hilarious that the thing I said that has gotten the most loathing is basically "hey guys, you have to work for what you want!"

No, what you said is "Hey guys, you have to give him credit for not giving up!"

What you're doing is the equivalent of telling us that, if we were to post up bad art that someone had done with a #2 pencil and map colors of a herm vixen with tits the size of the notebook paper it was drawn on to make fun of it, we should instead give the "artist" credit because hey, they've just kept at their map pencil on notebook paper monstrosities for a decade, and had acquired a loyal following of fanatics who "pozt lik ths".

Maybe, just maybe, we're not mocking the concept of hard work. Maybe, just maybe, we're mocking the idea that we should acknowledge his hard work in spite of him being complete and utter shit.

That is because comedy is something that requires talent to successfully pull off, it is not an MMO where you can just grind out lousy performance after lousy performance and then magically become good at it.

There's a difference between perseverance and not knowing when it's time to call it quits.

2 is painfully unaware of that difference.

Slowpoke incoming...

I had a firsthand taste of 2 Gryphon in person last December, while apparently unaware that he's the local convention's special guest along with Sam Conway. Yyyyyes, he's kind of personable on the outside, but the more I sit next to him while he gulps on that wine, the more I feel that he's a bit full of himself. Something about him says "gimmick", and, like the con I went to, his comedy routine comes off as that. It feels like as if he's just not being true to himself.

So for him to get a break at a big-ish stage puts me in my usual throne of skepticism where nothing's going to work well.
