"Funny Animals"
« on: June 10, 2010, 07:52:17 pm »
I've heard the term "funny animals" in this fandom more times than I can count, and it's one that, for some inexplicable reason, infuriates me to no end. Sometimes you get some old-timers waxing nostalgic about the good old days when anthro characters were like Bugs Bunny and Pogo, and how there seems to have been some golden age where what now would be called furry was a wonderful oasis of innocence and fun, completely devoid of any mature themes like sexuality, etc. Then there's the guys that drew tons of porn since the 90's and all of a sudden they cling to the phrase like they're at an AA meeting (Hi Jim Hardiman :)).

I'm not sure where this train of thought may be going, but maybe you guys could help out...

No idea where you're going with that either.

I've always considered "funny animals" to be anthropomorphic characters the creator didn't think up using his dick. Not conceived as fetish material (and thus not really furry.)

Firstly, retconning in golden ages is something everyone does about everything. It's not shocking that furries do it too, though it is rather hilarious. Especially since what transpired in the golden age varies not just from person to person, but depending on who each person is talking to. Multiple Choice Golden Age, select the answer which best applies at this time.

Secondly, oh god Hardiman. He's such a beardy old furry, and they wound up practically worshiping his ass at CYD because he was a Big Name who showed up and started going "lol i no rite?" with them, even as he still continued to act like an old school murrypurry right to the hilt. I hope that isn't a mistake Vivisector is going to repeat.

No, it's not.  It's about to become a word filter.

Fandumb always struck me as equivalent to writing 'Bush' with a money sign for the s. Very childish and stick-up-assish.
random gay furry art is broken , when will it be fixed ?
