There was a shit lot of similarities of the Avatar setting and an older game, Albion. The difference is that Albion was vastly more creative and the Iskai (the cat people in the Albion game) were actually a real alien species, and not just a bunch of human faced creatures with some affects on it. Also their society was decided different and their technology a lot more alien than a bunch of Amerindian/African tribe knock-offs with a USB cable at the end of their hair and a large harddrive of a tree where they upload their brains into when they die.
I said it a million times before. Avatar was a great movie because it tried to start a new franchise and tried to work character development into the plot... but it was too shallow at this and concentrated mostly on the special effects... just like the Phantom Menace ten years before it (ten years? Damn, people born in 1980 will be 30 this year, NOW I know we're getting old). The special effects developed here will mean it will be cheaper and easier to use them in the future to maybe produce some quality movies.
But more than likely it would just be used to produce B-grade crap that you'd buy for 5 bucks, watch once as you gorge on a tub of popcorn and then forget the next day.
