Geek Hierarchy and Mr. X
« on: April 25, 2010, 01:57:13 pm »
http://www.i-mockery.com/visionary/geek-hierarchy.php

Found this with StumbleUpon; I was reading down the list just awaiting for the furries to show up; I ended up reading the comments and who else shows up but Xyddex himself; he ends up being offended (no surprise). It's 2 years old... did anyone ever pick this up on CYD?

I like this gem:

Man, what is it with folks who always think I'm "offended" by this and "take myself too seriously"? I mean, yeah, it's true I have no sense of humor (I traded it back in 2001 for some magic beans) but the truth is my attitude when I see stuff like this can be summed up with an exhausted sigh and an eyeroll.

It's like, yeah, okay, you can dump on furries/otaku/sci-fi/whatever folks. Maybe it was funny, y'know, last year. I mean, you know Lore Sjöberg did the whole Geek Hierarchy thing already in 2002, right? Six years ago. I know part of creativity is the art of hiding your sources, but c'mon, man...

Even random people on the internet know Xyddex takes this "white-knighting" of furries too seriously.

Dude probably flipped his shit way the hell back when Brunching Shuttlecocks had their own 'nerd hierarchy' chart with furries on the bottom.

(also this probably could've just gone in the existing xydexx thread)

It's funny how even though this is old news, so little has changed that I can copy and paste my response there from two years ago and it's just as relevant to you guys: Man, what is it with folks who always think I'm "offended" by this and "take myself too seriously"? I think the best part about my time on that site was how they were trying to figure out how to be something other than a carbon copy of 4chan or Something Awful circa 2002, and ended up failing the same way Loki does.  ;D

TL;DR version: Wow, someone's making fun of furries. Welcome to nine years ago.  ::)

That was totally not what I read. You were telling them they were like 4chan and SA, and baiting them to prove otherwise. They didn't play your game. If you're the only one who thought you won, is it still a victory?

Your assumption was, and obviously still is, that people only made fun of furries "because it was the cool thing to do." (And you're disappointed that it hasn't gotten old and passe by now.) The truth, however, is that people make fun of furries because furries are usually social retards. Maybe it's socially responsible to point out the weirdos so they can fix themselves and fit in? It is completely retarded and vain for them to assume their weird fetishes deserve absolute acceptance with no effort on their own end.

Wow, A furry is responding to someone who is making fun of furries.  Welcome to eight years ago when furries like you started acting like its not funny anymore.  For the forseeable future regular people are going to find furries dressing up as animal people funny.  It may be old for you, the grizzled furry veteran, but if you had any social awareness at all you'd know that its as funny to other people as the terms "fail" "win" and "pr0n" still are to you.  You aren't a trendsetter.  Don't act like you have a monopoly on humor.

I do wish I had a dime for every time I've seen someone use that thing in apparent utter seriousness to "prove" that they won some argument either on account of having a higher place on the hierarchy than the one they assigned their opponent or on account of furries being at the bottom of it and thus autolosing.

I'd have a shitload of dimes.

Well, you don't need some chart for that.  Furry's Law, a corollary to Godwin's Law, states that if you are a furry arguing on the internet, you automatically lose.

Also lmbo lookit that jorgensen with the most verbose rollin-with-the-punches posts on the internet.

I see what you did there.  Very clever, saying you have no sense of humor, then attempting to make a humorous statement.  That's irony hard at work!

You obviously were offended, otherwise why would've you even bothered to sign up on the site, let alone post a long rant claiming that "by George we're better than all these Bitter Betties because obviously they're only bashing us to divert their own insecurities"?  By the way, getting back to the concept of irony, wouldn't the fact that you responded in such a fashion instead of simply letting the people be entitled to their opinion be a pretty good sign of insecurity on your part?

Your clique only comes up with a fresh load of public self-humiliation every other month or so, so people are kind of left to fill in the blanks during the downtime.  If Something Awful circa 2002 still gets a Xydexx circa 2002 response from you in 2010, I'm not sure that you're the best person to judge whether their commentary has succeeded or failed in its intended purpose.
