Mall Ninja Vs Macrophile; big guns and bigger egos
« on: February 15, 2010, 03:13:44 pm »
http://www.flayrah.com/c/anthrocon-bans-fur-over-open-carry

Okay, gist of this is PA allows both concealed (with permit) carry and open (with or without) carry of firearms. Some cities/townships (Filthadelphia mainly) have harsher laws, but in general PA is like Texas used to be. However, at AC, CC is discouraged because it's against hotel policy.

So this guy, Ross*, decides he wants to be the next Groat or something and gets busted once on a bullshit OC charge, and once on a legit charge (he carries into an Airport, which is beyond retarded). So Conway decides to stick is nose into this and basically says that because Ross can't keep out of trouble, basically bans the guy from AC. Some may see how this could be a concern, but it carries over from a tradition of Conway banning people from AC for things unrelated to the most part to AC.

As to whether or not one needs to be armed in that part of Pittsburgh, well it's not as clear cut as I'm sure the staff will comment that it is.

The Greatest irony being that the DLL convention center is hosting the NRA gunshow in 2011...

*Last name is Ross, it's not Sibe.

He was carrying the gun out of the airport (in a holster), from the baggage claim. The case was conceded by the DA because it was based on a local firearms-control ordinance. Current state law forbids such ordinances, and has for some time. I'm not personally opposed to such controls, but only if lawfully enacted.

The concept that people should be punished for their own wrongful arrest is unconvincing.

Well, I think the whole point here is not so much this individual's record as it pertains to firearms, but the fact that Sam Conway is a ridiculous man on a massive power trip not seen since...well, since the last time a furry in a 'position of power' let it go to their head.  Like the FA admins.  Or that guy who ran Yerf.

Carrying in an Airport is forbidden by state law. It sounds like the DA wanted to pursue the local ordinance instead and just gave up. When you baggage check (or claim) a firearm it has to be in a hardcase carrier, often lockable. I really haven't looked into that in a while, but it's not like the baggage claim lady would just hand him his holster, and if he carried it outside he'd have to load it inbetween.

It says specifically that carrying in the common area of an airport is OK. The baggage claim is in this area - on the ground floor, right next to where all the cars are. You don't have to go through security to get to it.
