Why is it that the typical furry response to "something about FA sucks" is "OMG UR SO STUPID FA IS GREAT ITS ALSO FREE SO WHY DONT U JUST TAKE UR ART ~ELSEWHERE~"? (An argument logically isomorphic to "Bush is a great president and this country is free, so why don't you just move elsewhere?")

Case in point: I upload an image that was originally a 1984x1984 pixel .PNG, which FA resizes down to 1280x1280 and converts to a JPG. This is so blatantly stupid if you're pressed for both disk space and CPU time, as FA is notorious for. And almost immediately, I get people jumping down my throat, telling me to "grow up" and that I should resize my own screenshots.

Every furry loves FA absolutely, no shadows, no argument, unless the staff is threatening something they like.  See all the outrage over the Krystal meme, cub porn, whatever in contrast with the rampant fellatio whenever the system regularly breaks down.  Praying for the day Gayfar drops by, offers them staff status, and fucks them in the ass.

Anyway, that they can't just display the submissions as-is rather blows me away.  This is conscious incompetency.  This isn't accidental well we didn't really think this through, they set out to fuck shit up.  Of course since most furry jerk pieces are just tolerably compressed little JPEGs anyway 99% of the users won't even notice.  It keeps tripping me up, but outside of the few users who regularly handle large images and formats and the few users with a goddamn pulse there will be pretty much zero support for having this corrected.

FA is based roughly on the DeviantArt setup, or the old setup at the time of FA's creation, but this just didn't seem to ever get properly implimented. Half the images you click on are already in 'full' view, and for a while there merely clicking on the image did not change the view, but rather just reuploaded it.

FA needs to decide if it wants to be primarily an image viewing site, like say, Fchan, or a downloading site like say, VCL. Then they can make individual tiny ass naggy rules to cater their bandwidth accordingly rather than just being a half-broken version of a fence-sitter.

While I'm inclined to agree with you, LN, I don't think that's a decision that will ever be made.  FA's entire claim to fame is that it's more than just VCL and Fchan combined; it's also LJ and Yiffstar (and I can't think of any shitty popular sites for posting crap music).  It's a one-stop-shop for posting low-quality "creative media" of all kinds.  As far as I can remember, no other site has done that while catering explicitly to furries at the same time.  And that is why it will always remain a buggy piece of shit.  There's no competition.  No one else has been able to gather the resources to put together anything that caters to all the freaks and fetishes, all the 'writers' and 'artists' and 'musicians'.  It's pretty much cicle-jerk central.

Mind you I'm not trying to defend or say anything at all positive about FA.  I think it's an abomination upon the Internet greater than the Big Five combined.  But it's currently the only site focused on furries that combines everything together into one drama-filled mess, and because of that, the furries will continue to flock to it, the admins will continue to bask in the glow of sycophancy, and the site will continue to be a buggy, hackable piece of shit.  And I'm perfectly okay with that, because it's fun to watch the panic and terror whenever the site goes down. :3

I know a lot of furries who left their own sites, sites they built, to post exclusivley to FA. I don't think it has to do with lack of competition. I don't think furries ever cared at all for competition. These are the same people who can buy Pocky by the truckfull without ver realizing it's Japanese. Mob mentality, and high school fads plague this group. And in that sense, is why people prefer FA. It has everyone they know, they can watch, favorite, and 'befriend' people with a click of a button, just like dA, they can top that all off with comments that usually consist of either "you draw good" or "this is hot/sexy/funny/deep", and yeah, it fits their social networking. It's an online con. They brush by each other, unload their wallets for comissions, giggle, swap smut and bumble along.

Really, without the feedback, the site never sould have taken off. I've already heard a few angerly complaining that on specific forums, they don't get the kind of responses they'd like. "I have 10 views but no posts WAAAA". It doesn't matter if say, unlike dA there is never any constructive criticism, they just want fellatio for having actually put 5 minutes of their time into some drawing of tits or story about inflation.

I'm curious to see how reactions will change when the search function returns.

Well, on FA, you're not allowed to be mean otherwise the admins will ban you for trolling. You're also not allowed to exploit security holes, otherwise you break the terms of service which prevent you from breaking security holes. (and someone said the AUP looked like it was written by a well-paid laywer. LOL).

the image rezizeing doesn't realy bother me that much. although I lost some details in an image i uploaded, but these were not that that important. The Image stil looked good, If they were to accept redicuously lare images the servers would get flooded and you would only be able to se parts of the image at once.
Al in al I think FA is the best art site out there. because you get almost instant feedback on your art. and can distribute your art on a much faster phase. People can favoritte you and other people can find your art trough them and so on and so on.

The feedback on FA is little better than a handjob, since most of it consists of just "MURR THIS IS HOT I'D LIKE TO YIFF WITH HE/SHE/IT/SHI/THEM". When you, on rare occassion find an actual constructive criticism, it's usually worded fairly meakly and embedded in two or three mindless praises because NOBODY WANTS TO HURT FEELINGS NOW.

Other than that, all the features you mentioned are just knock-offs of the ones on dA, and without a functioning search engine it is rendered fairly broken. I can find artists on dA none of my friends or favorites have even heard of, just because I can search. Having to relie upon the circle-jerk of favorites is like putting down a clique for retards into an already shitbogged system.

I mean, really, how many of us though we'd see a day when there was a site out there with less decent art per capita than VCL? Yet, there it is.
