Another tragic loss in the fandom.
« on: June 09, 2009, 05:48:07 pm »
Internet exhibitionist Ryoku the black dragon is rumored to have offed himself sometime in the vicinity of May 22nd.

Various links on his internet exhibitionist website profile page state that his name was Gary Griffey, which leads to:
Quote from: Some guy on DeviantArt quoting an obit
Gary Lee Griffey III, 18, of Roanoke, passed away Saturday, May 16, 2009. Gary was a senior at William Byrd High School and was working part-time at K.F.C. in Vinton. Surviving are his mother, Kittie G. Diggs; father and stepmother, Gary L. Griffey II and wife, Kiyomi Griffey. Loved siblings include Kayla Griffey, Mackenzie Diggs, Lucas Diggs, Mackenzie Griffey, and Lauchlan Griffey; paternal grandmother, Irma Griffey, of Chattanooga, Tenn.; maternal grandmother, Mary Humphries, of Lowry City, Mo.

(What appears to be him talking to himself is actually the site's other ryoku, believe it or not.)

The rest of this profile will be that of a Memorial

While it sucks that this guy died at the tender young impressionable age of 18, part of me is thinking that he's better off not growing up to become a child molester or dogfucker. Also, as in other fandom suicides, how is it that these people can leave such a small 'net footprint behind?

It seems like the cool thing to do these days. Seems every couple of weeks I hear about a new furry suicide.

I am sad to hear of kids killing themselves. 18? Pretty darn young. :<
All those people giving their "respects" bother me. RPing sadness on a forum(?) to a dead person?
:>

It's cross between pity and apathy.  Sure, it's a sad thing to hear about someone so young taking their own life, and perhaps should be treated with some modicum of respect.

On the other hand, though, was it really that big a loss to society in general?  We don't yet know the details of this particular death, or in fact much at all about this particular furry; but people who are furry 'internet exhibitionists' don't tend to be associated with people who are going to succeed in life.  Unless we can dig up something to the contrary, it's probably safe to assume that this kid wasn't on the fast track to curing cancer.

Suicide is the single most selfish act anyone can commit. Pity the family, show respect to them and his frie... er, his you know, real life friends.

Just don't forget whose goddamn fault this is*.
