Seldom do I regret my efforts to treat everyone with basic human dignity.

A week ago, I was the lone member of the AFF staff who felt, going into our meeting, that you deserved a chance to come to the con and show that you had turned over a new leaf. Based on your attitude prior to the decision, I managed to convince the rest of the staff that you had likely "turned over a new leaf," as it were, and that everyone deserves the chance to prove it. I considered it a moral victory in your favor that the staff changed their minds, and were willing to consider extending you the olive branch.

In the interim, your behavior on the forum and in private emails have caused our convention staff an incredible amount of stress. Likewise, you have publically advertised things that need not be advertised; by announcing that our security have concealed weapons, you have defeated the purpose of their concealed carry permits. This damages the trust our more pacifist congoers may have of the staff in general. Furthermore, I am greatly dismayed by your choice to push for an open poker tournament. This is against con and hotel policy, and is illegal in the city.

The fact that you are stirring up trouble already proves to me that I was wrong. You clearly have not turned over a new leaf, and I do, indeed, regret my choice to beg, plead and cajole the staff into allowing your attendance. Our artists have expressed dismay at our choice as well, and I see nothing but tention in the forum. Therefore, in order to correct my error, I must insist that you not attend All Fur Fun, either under the name Sibe or any other alias you chose.

It is my hope that you will be able to change your behavior, and someday be able to participate fully in the furry community. Unfortunately, your opportunity to do so will not come at Spokane's convention.

Eh, and they allow CC by attendees too (although it would give definite creepy power vibes if they didn't). Dammit, I'm all for most of these kinds of things usually, but con security is like even under rent-a-cop security guard status. I mean, fuck, the Dorsai are minimally effect and I hope none of them are armed.

I'm trying hard, VERY hard, to see any situation where that would be appropriate in the context of con security, and nothing.

From the AFF FAQ...

As per the requests of hotel security, we cannot allow the open display of weapons except those authorized by law. This includes firearms; blade weapons (peace bonded or not); and replica weapons (if it looks like a real knife or gun in any way, it should not be brought to the convention). These weapons are prohibited even if they are a part of your costume.

This obviously implies the had a 'discussion' with the hotel staff over this. Damn, that's pretty sad.

I honestly can think of no reasons why a convention would ban concealed carry, and I'm not certain they're even legally able to ban it in most states.

It is a bit of a dumb move to announce you carry.  And thus, it is a very dumb move to announce that someone else does.  Sibe is a shitheel.

I don't think the event can, but the hotel can have it's own rules, which again have varying degrees of legality according to state. A least, that's AC's excuse. That being said, I don't think this is so muchso a fact that someone carries as someone may being doing so for non-personal reasons of a security nature... which is fucktarded unless your guarding a bank or equivalent. If you are in the con hotel, and don't plan to travel at night... that's pretty pointless. I'd personally rather see a frown on it for everyone, than have hot heads like Jimbo ready to blast a cap in someone. All politics aside, the things are rarely ever good mojo.

Still, Sibe isn't exactly known for his detective work, so the guy (who doesn't appear to be the security honcho anyway, despite Sibe's claims) likely directly told him this. First rule of furry. For every idiotic action, there is an equal and opposite idiotic reaction. The man likes to stir trouble, but the con seems to be handling this in just about the stupidest way they can. Not over the banning, but over the tone.
