Big news in the furry community that pretty much everyone already knows about: Patrick "Furp" Reed killed by drunk driver.

This one, I can't rightly poke fun at.  As a motorcyclist, the danger of cars when one is out riding is always paramount, and drunk drivers are one of the lowest forms of scum on earth.  I can't being myself to feel too terribly bad about someone whose only connection was an internet clique I once claimed membership to, but conversely there's no comedy here.

Seriously though, unlike previous deaths we've reported on here, there was nothing this guy could have done about his.  Condolences to his friends and family.

the comedy starts in on Furnet IRC, where the channel ops on #babyfur (which Furp apparently was) set a none-too-flattering topic regarding Furp's death, resulting in the server opers forcibly closing the channel down, in typical furnet fascist fashion. The precise wording of the offensive topic is lost to the mists of time, as a) i'm not going to try and contact someone who was on the channel at the time for their logs, and b) when everyone parts a channel, the topic is lost.

By all accounts, he was a decent human being.  He was a trained, licensed EMT who volunteered as medical/emergency staff at Anthrocon.  He was a member of the armed services way back when they were somewhat respectable.  Supposedly he was a medic, I haven't confirmed that.  And he even managed to work with Dragoneer on some government project in some third-world country, pissed him the fuck off, but didn't murder him.  Supposedly Dragoneer has been trying to cash in on the death and make it sound like his personal tragedy, that he lost Furp and never had the chance to make amends :( :( :(
