The (Baby)Furluminati
« on: July 24, 2008, 01:48:39 am »
Saw this on CYD; it's unsourced, but given the stupidity that runs rampant in the furry fandom, I doubt even CYD could make this sort of faggotry up:

Quote
A few weeks ago, in the midst of some minor turmoil, it was suggested, once again, that a small council of Babyfurs be established to discuss matters of importance to the community, suggest courses of action, and present their collective opinion before the Community. There is growing concern that the weight of these decisions and the voice to share them with you should not rest on the shoulders of any one individual as has been the status quo for the last eight years.

A council which is too large becomes unwieldy, is bogged down by it's own weight, communication between all parties becomes too time consuming, and in the end the entire process is ineffective.

I would suggest a eight person council, two from the US, two from Canada, two from Europe and two from the remaining areas (Central & South America, Asia, Africa & Australia), based on Babyfur concentrations around the globe, with a nineth to "maintain order" over the council's discussions, keep debates "on topic" and cast a vote only in the case of a tie. The nineth council member may be from any country.

There are some among you who will say that the community has subsisted for eight and more years without the need for representation or a body such as this. To these I will assure that this council is not intended to be a "governing body." It's intention is to be a "brain pool" made up of respected members of this community to discuss actions and incidents which impact the ability for all of us to enjoy who we are and what we do in a safe, sane and conscientious way for everyone, and propose a suggested course of action to maintain that.

I open up this topic for discussion. If the discussion proves positive we'll take another step to build said council, so while you consider the above proposal, also think about who in your particular region, you think would be a good representative. But for right now, let's keep it as a friendly discussion, brain storming the council idea.

Thank you for your time, your restraint and your consideration.

*Hugs*

Swift Fox

Yes, you read that right -- "Swift Fox" wants to make a "Council of Pedos" to help keep the "babyfur community" from delving into chaos and turmoil.

Seriously?  In all my years in this fandom, this is the single dumbest thing I've ever read.  Not just because it's suggesting that one of the most hated and reviled subsects of the fandom needs a council of Grand High Poobahs to say "Stop being dumbfucks", but because they think this idea would actually work without it eventually imploding on itself.

Do explain, as I don't think I've ever heard of this before.

The Furry Exodus was a parody of a real-life Christian Exodus movement (that one was covered on the Daily Show).  The furry version suggested that every furry move to some city in California and basically take over, start furry businesses, employ furries, vote furries into office.  It was about as well thought out and reasoned as the Christian version, which was real, and so devoid of humor or sarcasm that the furry version appeared to be just as serious.  FurNation ate the site, of course.

Again we have something that talks grand, has severe deficiencies in... really everything, and is equally likely to be real or a poorly executed joke.

The main problems I have are that their diction is too lofty and that they are not being inclusive enough: this is being presented as something that is too formal for something which has little purpose, in all likelihood.

If you think there aren't self-appointed committees IRL which are just as serious-business—if not more so—about equally frivolous topics, then you need to take a look around. And if you think babyfurs are crazy, you should see some of the batshit-insane assclowns who represent groups who are serious-business about things that actually do matter. From time to time, I watch local governmental proceedings on TV, and the stupidity and antics from public speakers can rival anything the Internet can produce.

Furthermore, if they are willing to put in the effort required to include well-behaving babyfurs in order to get those who don't behave well to STFU or otherwise stop being complete morons and dumbfucks, how can it possibly make things worse than they are now? It's not as if they're asking for your cooperation.

Whatever. The odds are against them; they'll probably find a way to screw it up.

When babyfurs make concessions, like taking jokes or buying pizza for the masses at a con, it helps their image. As do members of their little group who don't act like complete freaks.

Any attempt to legitimize it is where a negative backlash wails on them. In that way though, all fetish sub-groups in furry are like that. If furry as a whole is still considered 'ew freaks' any run from within to get an excemption on that for a select group is met with dire resistance in the fandom. In a way though, that's just because they're trying to save said group from getting cut down even worse by the public, and in the process screwing the fandom over... more.
random gay furry art is broken , when will it be fixed ?
