FA/P Golfcart Races
« on: July 13, 2008, 04:22:53 pm »
MurrInfinity remains down this month, though they've gone well overboard on replacement equipment with their $16000 in donations.  Furry Art Pile meanwhile strains to contain the unexpected load of thousands of the screaming primates who are seeking a porn fix.  Children all through the furry-sphere have already forgotten the myriad issues with FA and are now complaining full bore about FAP.  It's true, you really don't notice FA's stunningly incompetent administration when you've got FAP's UI issues both staring you in the face and not deleting your work.  FAP admin Ekigyuu does seem to be eager to recreate the FA experience.  By embarassing the administration in front of the users.  See A Lesson For FurAffinity:

I'm glad that FA is coming back online next month.

I don't expect FAP to replace FA; that site will always have a place on the internet as the MySpace of art websites.

It is my sincerest hope that FA learns from FAP and starts treating it's users with the respect every artist deserves. These art sites exist to serve them, not the other way around--this is the mantra with which I built FAP.

Hypocritical and self-contradictory, he seems to be trying his level best to become the next Jheryn (a position currently well-filled by Preyfar).  And what's this, it seems FA site admin Yak is right there there in the comments, registering multiple accounts as he's been banned multiple times from this journal.  There he goes, continuing to avoid a block and harassing Ekigyuu on his own site.  He claims that speaking poorly of a competitor is bad by speaking poorly of his competitor.  Did you just say this shows FA in an equally poor light?

*clap paws* yeah you're right O.o
What if the pentagon has stored lost data of porn and yiff in it's data, has anyone over there saved about millions of porn data and art in it's computer drive? tell me more about the facts what they have in your opinions!

And here...we...go.  </Joker>

Seriously, I'm not surprised ekigyuu took the shot at them.  The only thing FAP's missing that FA has is the larger community.  And the truly incompetent moderation team.  And the eight server crashes a day.

But at least they've got ekigyuu acting like an ass!  That's a start!  Pretty soon, he might even make ME a moderator there!  (Where I'll promptly hand the position over to someone who will eventually turn FAP into a diseased, wretched shell of its former self.  ;D )

I happen to like FAP's UI better (even with its bugs), and the working search feature/tags is a nice touch.  Too bad no "big name" furry artists post there, unless you count Sonderjen.  Oh, and that oh-so-loveable scamp cbee.

If I had to choose, I'd pick FAP over FA for functionality, but FA over FAP for the "community" (read: amount of good porn).  Both sites could stand to improve, though.

The "Hyena Overlord" is stepping in to claim he isn't lording over his mysterious fanbase.  Somehow he even manages to spin Yak's action of breaking the other site's rules, registering multiple accounts, and evading a block as admirable.  It's usual thing he does, stomping around and claiming that FA is a "community" which he staunchly defends against the raging barbarians who seek to destroy it.  And guess what?  If he and his people didn't step in, there wouldn't be drama.  He claims he's only stirring up his fanbase because he's required to, but no, he's going out of his way to upset his readers and set up a good strong Us Versus Them sentiment where one really didn't exist before.  He's wading in with all the tact that I usually use, really, and using it to explictly cause drama.  And you guys at Furry Digg?  You don't know drama.  Drama is a hundred teenagers getting riled up and attacking someone's business for pointless reasons.  Not some guy on a forum ranting and telling people what they should do.

Yes, I own and run FA, and yes... shit happens, but to censor your rival from defending their own site after bashing it?

But papa!  I only learned it by watching you!  Anyway, ex-coder Blue Roo shows up to mention that FA doesn't exactly believe that working for the users is in their best interest: they're more like children playing with shiny toys.

I drew up a redundant server architecture for FA. FA never need have to go offline ever. People pay good money for this, but you got it for free. It was ignored.

I found cheap but reliable servers for FA. That was ignored.

I *IMPLEMENTED SEARCH*. Stupidly fast, scalable, easy to maintain search was READY TO GO. 3 hours of coding was all that was required to integrate it with the site. Search could have been up LAST YEAR. It was ignored.

I brought up security issues. Tons of them. They were ignored. I had to publicly quit the site to bring any attention to one.

I brought up lots of concerns, issues, design ideas, and improvements. Improvements that don't require new servers, but instead a little thinking. They were ignored.

Frankly, you are offline now because FA is appallingly mismanaged. Had you followed any of the advice that I, and others, have given you, FA would be up right now.

You wasted the money you raised by buying over-powered hardware that you don't need, to do the wrong things, and solve the wrong problems. Last I heard, you raised over $16k. You've since blown it on two completely inappropriate servers. Good god, for $16k you should be able to run the site for months. But instead of being efficient, you once again take the wasteful route. You took advantage of this situation to buy the biggest shiniest toys you could find.

Just like the numerous past server failures and scalability issues, you will have problems again. And again you will wail and gnash your teeth and hide behind the sad excuse of "hardware failure". This is, what, the 6th time FA has had an extended outage due to server issues? Once is understandable. Twice a fluke. But it's quite obvious that despite running in to the same issues over and over, you never learn. Good god man, hardware failure hasn't been a valid excuse for site failure since 1994. Thankfully for you, the community has an extremely short memory.

You deserve any and all criticism you are getting.

- PS. Will you delete this comment? Let's find out!

- PPS. I hope you saved enough from those server purchases to pay your taxes. There are quite a few drama-llama people who intend on reporting your recent cash influx to the IRS for you.

Blue, you were a pretty decent and upstanding guy, and one of the few on FA until you threatened the status quo and Preyfar's favoritestest little fuckbuddy Calorath prodded you off the site.  Keeping fighting the good fight, or something.

Preyfar's entry went friends-only or private. Ha.

Are you serious? DeviantArt is honestly the 'MySpace' of Art Community websites, far more than furAffinity ever will.
FurAffinity is a dumpsite for every Furries porn. DeviantArt, as crappy as that is too, incorporates a FAR braoder range of
artistic styles and tastes FAR beyond just furry artwork. Everything from canvas work, to Photography, Tatooing, and
Pottery. do I advocate DeviantArt? Not really... but it's a far more professional and 'My Space' like website than FA
will ever be.
