The prevalence is mostly due to demographics, I suppose.

I'm sure there is *a bit* of truth to his story -- his parents probably told him he can't download any more furry porn or caught him trying to fuck the household pet. There are too many keywords in there for me to buy it at face value, though.

...and we both know plenty of people who fall into that category have offered to help.

They might have a hard time judging competency, but I think the reason they are not taking people up on offers for FREE HELP falls into the realms of drama and paranoia. The paranoia might be a little understandable since somebody took the time to exploit the site on at least a few occasions but if they were doing things right and using a framework that prevented these types of problems (or at least using best practices and reviewing code) it shouldn't have been a problem in the first place.

I think Inkbunny is making the right decision going open source... Or, at least I heard that was the plan.

I'll definitely help them out. I usually need some kind of project on the side, anyway.

Almost every web application these days follows the MVC pattern, which is sort-of-not-really what you're describing. You can still have XSS holes with purely client-side code; not ever exploit is server-side. But yes -- most applications these days separate the business logic from the views.

As far as FA -- I have no clue. I haven't looked at their code, ever, and it's not always easy refactoring an entire web application to use a standardized framework. That said, it's not a very complicated web application compared to other enterprise apps I've worked on.

The "trust issue" doesn't make any sense in not having people help with the code. We have contractors work on shit all the time and you can have people work in a branch and review the code before merging it down and deploying it.

I will never understand why someone would post all the reasons they are fat and what they *should* be doing, instead of using that time to run on a treadmill, instead. Or if his knee is that fucked-up, get in a pool. Hell, they even have cardio machines for people who can't use their legs at all.

Also, if he feels like his life is that "sedimentary" he might want to take a shower ;3

Heck, even if I won the Mega Millions with the largest ever jackpot tomorrow and ended up being so rich that I would never need to wipe my own ass ever again I would still not even so much as get a tattoo on my shoulder... even if that tattoo is a perfectly socially acceptable thing (like a national emblem or something).

So basically what you are saying is you don't want tattoos...

That's cool and lot of people feel the same way. Personally, I like them and I have some tiger stripes and a pawprint and a tribal bobkitty. I don't want anything I can't conceal with a collared shirt though; I have a professional job and might not always live in Cali where nobody gives a damn about that kind of stuff.

Stalking Cat went to the other extreme however. He also complained to me in person he was having trouble finding work as an in-home PC repair technician. No offense to him, but this should really fall into the "no shit" category. I think people should do what they want, but they should also realize the consequences of their actions. Now many people are making him seem like a martyr, referring to "his accomplishment" and all that.

I wouldn't consider tattooing your entire body and modding it any sort of accomplishment, but I don't think it's a *bad* thing either. It's something I look at and say "oh, okay -- I guess that's cool" and leave it there. The guy was nice though, and however this happened it's still a tragedy.

but otherwise doesn't look like "a child," and doesn't involve dialog referencing child sex or anything like that

So, an 11-year-old boy fucking a mentally retarded dinosaur counts as ___________ ...???

A thread got posted in everyone's favorite forum complaining that the characters in this submission [NSFW] are underage. Not being into Digimon I'm not familiar with the characters and in all honesty that didn't strike me as cub. He pointed out later in the thread that another submission [NSFW] depicts a small child having sex with a mentally retarded dinosaur. Looking that character up he is DEFINITELY underage.

What really confuses me is Dragoneer's "explanation" that it isn't against the AUP because the characters are feral:

Quote
The policy target, and is meant to only target, anthro children who are clearly intended to be children. Not ferals, monsters or the like. I agree that it can and should be finessed for clarity, and we will do just that.

Wait, monsters? What?

The thread got closed with no further explanation besides Digimon = feral which implies underage sex is okay. The art is still up. People seem to think it's because Narse is popular on the site but I also can't ignore the fact that it just happens to be Digimon porn and a certain person who runs the site spends a significant portion of his time drawing Digimon dicks.

There might be something I'm missing here but that second submission definitely seems to violate the AUP.

Murdering a person for looking at you wrong is less reprehensible than having a collection of cp.

There are plenty of people who actually believe that these days.

CP is wrong and should be illegal but it's a sensational topic and people tend to blow it way out of proportion.

Downloading pics is not equivalent to molesting a child.

This bitch ain't fooling anybody.

Probably not =P

I think this sort of thing could form the basis for a new diet.

Whenever you get hungry but know that you shouldn't, you just browse this thread. Like magic, you no longer feel like eating.

I think *being active* is more important. Diets are a fad.

When I run all the time and lift weights, I'm able to eat whatever and stay fit.

When I binge drink 3+ pints of bourbon a day (like now) I sort of start to become unhealthy...

Wait, are you saying since they put a form up as a Google doc which happens to refer to FA, this should actually matter?

The form itself doesn't refer to any of those things...

Maybe I'm not understanding you.

No shit.

That's why I registered with this one instead of Ricky ;)

Also I've been on the internet too long to take something like that at face value.  It smacks too much of "leaving the fandom, back in 5 minutes".

I thought of that too, but you would think his sister would have denied the whole CP thing.

Otherwise, best troll ever <3

Oh, also not sure if anyone noticed but his entire IB account has been removed...

EDIT: looks like it is official:

They are volunteer but it's furries so the answer is probably cronyism.

Aaahahaha...  really?

Oh, wow. Furries really know how to control that drama.

Instead of doing what they SHOULD do and play it off like it's nothing they do like, the opposite.

*grabs some popcorn* can't wait to see how this pans out...

I don't understand how someone can power trip being on con security.

They do, though -- this is how emotionally balanced these people are.

I'd question the motives of anyone who is trying real hard to work security at a con. Some people are just weird and want to be in a position of authority. Not that convention rent-a-cop is a very lofty title but again, some people are fucked.

Weasyl Wankfest / Re: Identity issues plague Weasyl
« on: October 24, 2012, 07:40:03 pm »
I think this just reflects a lot of the insecurities within the fandom.

Basically, if it's not a furry site, then it's not part of our secret club, and people who don't know the secret handshake will get in, which will lead to my mom finding out that I have a fursuit and that I fuck in it... I think that's the logic behind these people. And it's ridiculous. I hope the Weasyl staff doesn't take them too seriously.

I doubt anyone is actually afraid of their parents finding them on the site =P

That makes too little sense, even for furries.

Even though FA is an art site, people obviously use it as a social networking tool. Furries are going to want a social networking site with other furries. There was an attempted furry Facebook (I forget the name) but it failed miserably. Unless something similar comes around people actually use, that's an important deciding factor when people look for a replacement for FA.

If you're looking to make a general art site that's cool. I think that's the main reason people are complaining though, whether they state it or not. As with the ubiquitous logic you spoke, furries don't want their parents finding out they are into X, Y and Z. It's becoming increasingly harder and harder these days to separate your online social circles, creating the necessity for a separate online community than say, Facebook. Furries are going to have a preference for such a social community if it's specific to the subculture.

Also, as someone who is primarily into furry art I know I would want an art site that has furry art on the front page. I can appreciate other art but I want the animal people ;3

Anyway, good luck and I hope it works out!
