The new administrators are here!

We've been working to honestly assess the site’s shortcomings, and make changes that benefit you, our community.

In the past, FA had struggled with administrator inaction, bias, and a lack of accountability, which had led to some serious problems. Now we're working together with a new site co-owner and a dedicated administration team, determined to improve user support. We know that words are not enough, so it’s time to take action to make Fur Affinity the art community which you deserve.

In order to serve your needs more effectively, we have assigned administration teams to handle the different submission types. Traditional and digital artwork issues will be handled by a specialized team, and the same holds true for audio, written work, and photography. We also have a dedicated team of site support administrators to handle day-to-day activity and behavioral issues to ensure a better experience for all all of you.

Additionally, we have written a new Staff Code Of Conduct which outlines requirements that all staff must adhere to.

We truly want to fix the issues, and we're working toward a better Fur Affinity.

Notice, again, how they focus on "improving support" instead of "fixing the site"

The staff page has been updated, and now there are six "departments" averaging two administrators each.

I'm guessing the new "department heads" are from Furocity? Also, the majority of the existing staff has been made "TOS Compliance and User Support" admins, and one has to wonder how some of them feel about new people being brought in above them when they've been on staff for years in some cases.

Of no surprise, there still hasn't been a single change to the technical staff. Apparently, they want to fix the issues, just not fix the issues.

Does it really matter at this point? I'm not saying that fixing the technical issues shouldn't be at the top of Dragoneer's Cheetoh-stained "to do" list, but let's be honest here: the only things that will cause a vast migration of users from FA to other furry artdump sites are a complete server meltdown, Dragoneer shutting it down, or a scandal that forces the site offline (something on the level of, let's say, the FBI finding honest-to-god child porn on FA's servers).

FA isn't "too big to fail" -- and it will fail if the technical issues aren't eventually addressed -- but at this point, all of the furry artdump sites that are "competing" with it are "too small to succeed".

So it seems the existing staff was not informed (or not completely informed) about the new staff coming on board:

Dragoneer,

I don't mean to hijack the thread, but can you please give these details to our current staff so we understand what is going on?

And who is that exactly? I don't recognise the avatar.

So it seems the existing staff was not informed

Surprise surprise!

It's almost like he's trying to piss off all his current staff. Doesn't tell them what's going on, and then relegates most of them to "some people who also help with some shit I guess" on the staff list. Bravo.

Wow, furries using someone and casting them aside when something better comes along?

Who was this admin, and under what rock was he hiding? And was he really blindsided, or is this theater for the users? Using and losing is SOP for most furries anymore. Loyalty means nothing these days...

And who is that exactly?

Glaide.

Quote from: a pigeon
Glaide - Friend of Preyfar. Did absolutely nothing at all (even more so than everyone else) so astonishingly, preyfar let him go. However, Glaide had purchased Preyfar's old Laptop from him in an auction on Furbid and this had nothing to do with the fact that Glaide was, after giving his solemn word to do stuff, soon back in the saddle. He promptly broke his word and went back to doing nothing. Preyfar let him get away with it. Appeared to be only semi-literate.

Quote from: Kindrift
Glaide was actually de-adminned in 2007. He had done nothing for months and was difficult to reach for admin duties, and in response Dragoneer revoked his admin rights. However, Glaide has severe emotional problems, and he plays on these to get favors. Immediately after his rights were stripped, he cried to Dragoneer and claimed that that it was making him terribly depressed to not be admin, and so Dragoneer conceded and gave his admin status back. Over two years have passed, and since then it's hard to say if Glaide has really done anything at all on the site.  Few people know he's admin.  He never joins the admin IRC, he rarely checks the admin forums, and he's a clear security risk. Dragoneer has hired him twice so far.

>I think he really desperately needed a family, and that's what FA admin status was for him. A really shitty, enabling family.

That sounds about right. Glaide has been chronically depressed all the years he's been on FA. This is from one of the first journals he posted on FA, in 2005:

'its christmas day and i wanna cry'

http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/1741/

In 2007 Glaide was de-admin'ed because he had literally been doing nothing for months and was out of contact with the rest of the staff.

He suddenly sprung into life when deprived of his precious @ and he complained to Dragoneer about how not being an admin was making him depressed. He was promptly reinstated having given his word that he would be active.

After some token efforts, he went back to doing nothing for a few years. Earlier this year there was, after much effort, a purge of some of the inactive admins, yet Glaide still managed to cling on by the grace of Sean Piche.

Now he is finally (hopefully) gone. AFAIK he was the longest 'serving' current admin (aside from Dragoneer), and and what legacy has he left? Well, he put this in his profile:

'Constantly being reminded that I am nobody..... I dont know what to put here... Im but a worthless hasbeen that apparently had no use...'

Previously he had something about how he was looking for a partner but NO ONE LOVES ME.

It's sad that he is so depressed and stuck in such a rut, but he ain't going to get better by being an admin on FA.

He should have stayed fired years ago.  Everybody seems to blame this on the Furocity guy, and to that I say good job, let's see some more.  To be fair, all of FA's staff are "some people who also help with some shit I guess," when they aren't actively making a situation worse.  Try and name name a single one who's done good for the site, and if you can't, there's no reason to complain when they get kicked or badged as second class citizens.

Another admin was removed, by the looks of it. Xaerun's account has been blanked and is now set to "member", his new account is also set to member, and he no longer appears in the "Site Admins" page on the forums (but still is marked as a "Forum Administrator").

And here he says he was removed.

Sean Piche could fuck up a baked potato.

I really truly thought he was gonna try to twist Gavin's arm to get him to write his new site in exchange for "saving" Furocity. It would have been a dick move, but at least it would have been a dick move that was somewhat in his own self-interest.

On the other hand, it seems like maybe whatever "deal" there was was somewhat fluid and vague to begin with. So maybe that was the idea at some point, whether or not that thought ever left Piche's brain...who knows.

I don't think there was much of a deal outside of "Want to be an FA admin?". With the loss of Damaratus, Dragoneer had more responsibilities than he wanted, needed someone to pass some off on, and his trust issues made him look inside his own social circle. It seems like Gavin's not one to rock the boat (unlike Damaratus, who apparently did not agree with him on some issues).  Gavin won't do anything to upset his friend, and we end up with one of the popular beliefs behind the criteria for joining FA staff: No one will do more than Dragoneer has, and therefore he won't look bad by comparison.

And the fact that there isn't new technical staff yet, despite it being one of the big things mentioned about the "merger", is probably a sign that Yak's death grip on the site code is as strong as ever.

EDIT: Didn't notice this, but Arshes has also been removed from mainsite staff.

Quote from: Dragoneer.
Additionally, we have written a new Staff Code Of Conduct which outlines requirements that all staff must adhere to.

Yet somehow, they didn't expect the userbase to actually want to read it right away. So the new staff rules have yet to make a formal appearance... and, not surprisingly, the rumor is that the existing staff have been throwing a fit at being held accountable for their actions and actually having to deal with users in a professional manner (and that includes users who regularly complain about the actions of staff).

The FAF thread about this has been heavily redacted, apparently to "prevent misinformation" because "it is [the Coc] not ready yet" but here it is:

EDIT: Didn't notice this, but Arshes has also been removed from mainsite staff.

It sounds like Arshes never really did much actual admin work on FA anyway, being mostly occupied with FAF and complaining about Dragoneer and FA's communication being useless (see these series of posts). Perhaps someone decided she didn't really need admin status if she doesn't actually do admin work on there.

I'm surprised Silver Wolfe is still around, since he appears to do nothing whatsoever. Maybe he spends his spare time providing blowjobs or other necessities. And apparently tsawolf isn't dead and does in fact appear now and then. Whether he actually does anything is another matter entirely.

Silver shares some of Dragoneer's sexual proclivities, so given the way the fandom organizes itself, he's probably one of Piche's online friends/typefuckbuddies.

He's also a massive sycophant, which probably doesn't hurt.
