I'm not sure the PoE Prime Directive even matters anymore. The existence of 4chan pretty much makes trying to implement it in any way (and the only way it EVER worked was through blind trust) impossible.

This is one of many very good reasons why PoE Red has been a wasteland since 2005.

Not really. 

There's still some activity there, but 99% of the really fucked-up sites have been covered on there.  At this point, any new submissions are just more of the same.  PoE News is still active, but I rarely post over there.

I miss the days when PoE Red was still active, especially when the site owners showed up.  Hell, I even miss everybody ganging up on Matt Moulton.

Last I knew, dude is fighting eviction from his mom's apartment... there was a big thread about it on PoE News.  His opinion of himself certainly hasn't suffered for it.

Depends what metric you want to use for 'surpass'.  We've already absorbed pretty much all the posters worth having, but on the other hand, there were a lot of really great posters and threads from CYD's early days that we'll never replicate.  Also, we have most of the good old CYD front page articles up on the blog, which certainly gives us a head start there; but we've yet to get any new folks to submit new articles or ideas.

I was considering revisiting an article I wrote in the beginning that covered the reasons why I still associated myself with the group at all and why I thought there were parts of it worth saving. Was "Funny animal" dead and buried, Why stay close to a group full of so many pieces of human wreckage, that sort of thing.

Be nice if that was still possible. The vast majority of the mental hospital system was shut down in the early 1980s. If it were still around, people like him and Chris-chan would probably be in there. If you've ever wondered about the root causes of the homeless population explosion since then, well, there you go.

And whatever happened to Weird Guy In The Corner? He was one of CYD's best article writers, but he seemed to have disappeared before CYD folded.

Damn, I mixed them up. TNM was the one that had most of the good articles, although WGITC had a couple as well: should check the archive. I think they both became less and less active towards CYD's demise.
