Weasyl Wankfest / Re: Weasyl begs for more feature suggestions
« on: March 21, 2014, 08:11:23 am »
work was beginning on coding custom forum software because it was decided vBulletin was "bad".
To be fair, vBulletin really isn't that great. Just last year approximately 30,000 sites got hacked through a vulnerability including Ubuntu Forums where 1.8 million logins and emails were stolen. I can understand wanting to get away from it.

Oh, haha, yeah that totally absolves them of ignoring feature requests because everyone knows the forums are the most important part of an 'art site'.

PS if vbulletin is so bad why the hell did they go with it in the first place?

No of course not, it's just some backstory on VB and a possible reason to get away from it. Another question that could be raised is why didn't they switch from VB when the exploits were found.

rite of passage in order to gain access to this site
Is this real life?

there's enough evidence here (i.e. the mountains of things still wrong with Weasyl) to suggest that caution isn't unwise.

hint: you are the only one saying this

the count of open issues on redmine has no bearing on reality, because (given a quick glance, without even logging in) half of the tickets are duplicates and half of the rest are conflicting feature requests

turns out, a simple count of objects in a database is not a meaningful metric of anything

for the 10-billionth time:
shut
up
ben

The duplicate tickets were closed. Adding up the features and bugs, there are 119 open things, and with the 13 -very significant things- I counted as missing (user groups, the ability to prevent people from sending you friend requests, the ability to SET A FEATURED SUBMISSION and more), there are 132. Even if Weasyl fixes these at the rate of one a week, it will not be until 2016 that it's actually up to snuff. But again, I am not asking anyone to give up on Weasyl. Just to merely not dive in head-first and upload their entire life's work. If that still prompts a shut-up response from you, advising people wait and see before jumping in head first, then okay I guess.

Christ, can you please stop with the double negatives? They're giving me a splitting headache along with making me feel you're not making any notable points whatsoever.

Sure, but I don't understand why you're only focusing on the semantics on my posts instead of the points.

Because the points are pointless. Or maybe I should say none of your points are not pointless.

If you aren't aware, each bug is probably not going to take a whole week to fix either. Some, a few hours, some a couple weeks. Stuff like "Markdown Block Formated Text Too Small" shouldn't take more than a day at most.

Why are you trying so hard to silence me Pi? And why are you incapable of discussing this without throwing personal insults around? It only damages your credibility to behave this way. I can't believe you actually broke the coding on my account so my post would erase itself when I went to submit. I mean, it's not like that when I log out, so.

I don't see anyone trying to silence you, have any of your posts been removed?
Also noone "broke the coding," that's just what happens when data gets lost along the line and the CSS doesn't work right. It's actually a fairly common thing...

5) Establish from the start the philosophies of the people you're getting involved with so you're not constantly butting heads over fundamental beliefs as to how to run something.
6) Be less argumentative, and communicate with the group more.
More echo-chamber garbage. I'm reading "pick a group of people who will agree with me all the time".
Yes sir Zaush, anything you say Zaush.

Scandal! / Re: so about this Zaush guy
« on: January 21, 2014, 06:30:59 am »

On a members-only and closed livejournal community, Furrydrama_2, Dragoneer stated in a now deleted thread that his own GF was able to identify Zaush merely from the description of his behaviour and that he had tried to make her have sex with him too (presumably before she entered into a relationship with 'Neer):

I tried to clarify that, but I doubt it will matter at this point. When I told Sciggles of this, I left out names... and she mentioned that Zaush tried to do something like this to even her. But she mentioned when she said no, despite him keeping asking and insisting, he backed off.

So I can't verify it on every instance, but I didn't agree with Zaush and the accusations concerned me. I just didn't want her getting burned.
And Sciggles denies it all:

I present to you the logic of Piche's/Zaush's fanclub:

Bask in the complete glory of idiocracy at its finest...

I mean if he willingly drove his browser here, er, I mean, signed up here and posted, then clearly we would be in the right to dox him because he was totally asking for it.  Right?
I'm sorry, I just have to say, post of the year right here.

It appears that people are deciding to move to Weasyl again, this time because Zaush is on the Phoenix team. Spike in Weasyl sessions, and lots of leaving journals to ensue.
Big Tumber post of people being suspended for saying Zaush is a rapist. Basically at this point, anyone even mentioning his name is getting hit by the administration.

videozaush: speaking to ant of you: if your dedication does not match my own, then you'd just be dead weight
Ben Anderson: Moral 101 - don't say anyone is dead weight
Ben Anderson: you have to motivate people
videozaush: how do you motivate a soldier?
videozaush: you make them realize how human they are, strip him of his pride and his self importance
Ben Anderson: or ya know "for queen and country"
videozaush: from there, you can motivate them to the stars
Ben Anderson: we are NOT soldiers
Ben Anderson: we are website coders
videozaush: you see this as a way to get attention, or money, or something
Ben Anderson: we are people who want to do a good thing for a large community
Hunter: He's right zaush. You motivate coders with irish coffee. :3
videozaush: you need to be prepared to get nothing in return, have people jeering at you and throwing rotten fruit, but not drop out
Ben Anderson: so
Ben Anderson: your idea
Ben Anderson: to motivate your co-workers
Ben Anderson: is to basically stomp them into the dirt and say "get this shit done" ????
videozaush: i motivate them by putting us against the world
videozaush: and you don't get anything done just jamming on ideas, or having wishful thinking
Zaush:
stripping people of their pride and self importance since 2005.

My drama instincts kicked in and I saved a backup of the journal. Good call too, it's gone now.

Backup of journal.

Apparently FA went back to normal operation briefly and then went into read-only mode again?

Two of the hard drives that failed earlier have been replaced and the RAID arrays are being rebuilt.
Because of that FA can not yet handle the full load and has to remain in readonly mode for a while longer.

Find something more productive to do with your time than run around pretending to be informed about something that you are not. There are a lot of people who have left staff that well, lets just say there are two sides to every coin out there.

I found that response somewhat disgusting, but that's how FA treats it's users I suppose. Clearly she means "Find something more productive to do than try and help us out, we aren't listening."
Also do they seriously expect people to believe it's luck that the coin lands on the same side every time? Every Ex-Admin has the exact same story to tell, but they are all lying?

18
Surely, if we stop everyone from talking about Weasyl on our forums, nobody will find out about it, right?
Yeah, about that...

For some reason it's been pretty steady there until today:

@weasyl http://projects.weasyl.com/fenderbender/  Really appreciate you trying to kick us while we're down with this insultingly named script. Classy.
Keep in mind he's talking about a project that came out weeks after Weasyl went live, that wasn't even created by them. Instead it was created and named by a user...

Well, like every time FA goes down, Weasyl's traffic has gone up. Here's some of their graphs:

I'm still expecting it to drop completely to it's normal amount of users after a few days of FA being up again.
