ImvuAffinity / Re: Staff Changes Megathread
« on: March 30, 2015, 04:14:16 pm »
Looks like this may be one of the new anonymous admin accounts which staff are hiding behind in order to reduce transparency and accountability:

http://www.furaffinity.net/user/Moderator-Toucan

However whoever is using it is allegedly already fucking up:

FA admins not being familiar with the FA rules? Well at least that's business as usual after the IMVU takeover.
http://www.furaffinity.net/user/Moderator-Puma
http://www.furaffinity.net/user/Moderator-Narwhal

I'm sure there's more generic animal moderator names too. Transparency at it's finest!

Hmmm /notes/ has changed. Guess that is it for this year.

Wheat will be updated next year?

Gee, I guess year of the fullscreen is over. Also why do folders and legends get their own column. That creates so much wasted space...

It's even worse on phones, you get about 5 words per line.

Edit: Editable comments work too, also instead of having a subject line, it says #link now (permalink?), it also shows a little icon by your avatar with a pencil if you edit the comment.

http://i.imgur.com/hhVvLKa.png Surely this is merely a coincidence.
It is. The 503 is coming from OnionCity (a public portal for Tor sites) and has nothing to do with the actual Tor site at all. Not to mention that 502 and 503 are completely different error messages.

ImvuAffinity / FA Updated (But Not Really)

Looks like Neer added a page to FA:

Working on the transparency docs. Trying to start 2015 out right. Here's the initial expenses: http://donations.furaffinity.net/
One of the things that stands out to me is:
Quote
Monthly Expense: OVH VPS Rental   $14.99/Month   Purpose: Off site hosting for personal email accounts
Cost History: $59.96 (Total)
Quote
Monthly Expense: Amazon SES   Varies   Purpose: Bulk emailing for password reset, new account sign ups, etc.
Cost History: $22.94 (Total)

Seriously? Do you really need two separate services including a VPS for email? And what exactly does "personal email" have to do with FA?

Also interesting, at the bottom of the page it reads:
Quote
NOTE: This does not include bandwidth/hosting expenses.
So again, they still haven't kept up their promise to have full accountability of the donated money. What a way to start the new year.

Cool. Let's think about that thought process:
I want to make this latex smoother. Let me find some industrial strength chlorine, even though bleach works. (the source article you posted even shows bleach)
Oh look, a stairwell in the middle of this building, nothing could possibly go wrong having industrial strength chlorine in an enclosed space. Lets do it here!
Oh my god, wait, what is this gas and why does it burn?
Lets take the time to grab all the buckets and other materials we were using and drop the chlorine powder while were in extreme pain!

That doesn't make any sense.

Some really interesting news. If this is all true, holy shit:

[7:57:49 PM] Illuminasky: But Zidonukes plan is to actually kill FurAffinity.
[7:58:08 PM] Illuminasky: We both discussed a plan to take out Dragoneer and reverse engineer our selves into FurAffinity.
[7:58:25 PM] Illuminasky: But, he became attached to me, and wanted to date me, and it all got strange.

So I guess a warning to FA users: Looks like FA's new sysadmin is reading+deleting your sent notes.

Remove your sensitive info from FA now.

It would appear that they are trying to clean out their databases of old notes, but it's just odd that not everyone's notes are being deleted, and why the hell start with notes?

9
It appears they have edited the code for fender journals so that people can't comment on them. What a way to fix the problem. Don't fix the site, just don't let people get to the information!

Here's the entire page with the comments.

10
Don't know if something is down or what, but all the comments seem to be gone.

Edit:

Even the number of comments thing is erased.

They're apparently letting him keep the money, but Dragoneer says that there is now no record of who donated. Seems pretty convenient.

Just took a look at FA and it looks like they're running through cloudflare now:

Oh boy...

Weasyl Wankfest / Re: Weasyl begs for more feature suggestions
« on: March 21, 2014, 08:11:23 am »
work was beginning on coding custom forum software because it was decided vBulletin was "bad".
To be fair, vBulletin really isn't that great. Just last year approximately 30,000 sites got hacked through a vulnerability including Ubuntu Forums where 1.8 million logins and emails were stolen. I can understand wanting to get away from it.

Oh, haha, yeah that totally absolves them of ignoring feature requests because everyone knows the forums are the most important part of an 'art site'.

PS if vbulletin is so bad why the hell did they go with it in the first place?

No of course not, it's just some backstory on VB and a possible reason to get away from it. Another question that could be raised is why didn't they switch from VB when the exploits were found.

rite of passage in order to gain access to this site
Is this real life?

there's enough evidence here (i.e. the mountains of things still wrong with Weasyl) to suggest that caution isn't unwise.

hint: you are the only one saying this

the count of open issues on redmine has no bearing on reality, because (given a quick glance, without even logging in) half of the tickets are duplicates and half of the rest are conflicting feature requests

turns out, a simple count of objects in a database is not a meaningful metric of anything

for the 10-billionth time:
shut
up
ben

The duplicate tickets were closed. Adding up the features and bugs, there are 119 open things, and with the 13 -very significant things- I counted as missing (user groups, the ability to prevent people from sending you friend requests, the ability to SET A FEATURED SUBMISSION and more), there are 132. Even if Weasyl fixes these at the rate of one a week, it will not be until 2016 that it's actually up to snuff. But again, I am not asking anyone to give up on Weasyl. Just to merely not dive in head-first and upload their entire life's work. If that still prompts a shut-up response from you, advising people wait and see before jumping in head first, then okay I guess.

Christ, can you please stop with the double negatives? They're giving me a splitting headache along with making me feel you're not making any notable points whatsoever.

Sure, but I don't understand why you're only focusing on the semantics on my posts instead of the points.

Because the points are pointless. Or maybe I should say none of your points are not pointless.

If you aren't aware, each bug is probably not going to take a whole week to fix either. Some, a few hours, some a couple weeks. Stuff like "Markdown Block Formated Text Too Small" shouldn't take more than a day at most.

Why are you trying so hard to silence me Pi? And why are you incapable of discussing this without throwing personal insults around? It only damages your credibility to behave this way. I can't believe you actually broke the coding on my account so my post would erase itself when I went to submit. I mean, it's not like that when I log out, so.

I don't see anyone trying to silence you, have any of your posts been removed?
Also noone "broke the coding," that's just what happens when data gets lost along the line and the CSS doesn't work right. It's actually a fairly common thing...

5) Establish from the start the philosophies of the people you're getting involved with so you're not constantly butting heads over fundamental beliefs as to how to run something.
6) Be less argumentative, and communicate with the group more.
More echo-chamber garbage. I'm reading "pick a group of people who will agree with me all the time".
Yes sir Zaush, anything you say Zaush.
