RMFC's chairman just announced that RMFC 2017 is canceled. Given that all their funds are being spent on closing costs, refunds, and the rest to charity, it can be assumed that it's a permanent cancel too.

They are claiming that they were forced to endure a "sudden and drastic increase in security costs", and that it was due to "misinformation spread about the convention, its staff and attendees". They were literally so scared of people saying "hey, maybe get rid of the neo-nazis" that they apparently had to increase the budget for security up to a full third of their operating budget.

Boo hoo Furry Digg scooped us on a thing.  https://www.flayrah.com/6903/rocky-mountain-fur-con-canceled-following-neo-nazi-associations-and-tax-irregularities

Quote
Colorado furry convention Rocky Mountain Fur Con has been canceled.

While their official statement cites rising security costs, the closure follows the controversial issues surrounding Kendal Emery, who is the CEO of the con, and the "Furry Raiders" group. A recent discovery was also coming to light that the convention's parent company had been incorrectly claiming a tax exempt status and had not filed taxes for a period of seven years. In this article we will go over these two issues that led to the end of Denver's furry convention.

After performing a due-diligence search on the non-profit parent company, Mid America Anthropomorphic And Art Corporation, it can be confirmed that the company has not filed tax returns between 2008 and 2015. The company, which is parent organisation to the Rocky Mountain Fur Con, advertised itself as a "non profit 503(c) corporation" on the convention's twitter account. However, as confirmed by IRS records, the company's status as an exempt non-profit was automatically revoked in 2011 for failure to file sufficient and consistent tax returns. It has further been confirmed by the IRS that they have not qualified as a exempt non-profit under any part of the United States tax code since 2011.

A non-tax related filing was made by the company with the IRS in 2011, to transfer the responsible board officer from Kendal Emery to Zachary Brooks. Kendal Emery stood down as chair of Rocky Mountain Fur Con after his 1993 conviction for "Criminal Sexual Contact with a Minor" was revealed.

Despite his resignation as convention chair, Kendal Emery continues to be the CEO of MAAAC. Recently he sent a Cease and Desist letter to furry fan Deo, following a dispute over allowing the "Furry Raiders" group to attend, and their access to the convention.

Using the title of "Chief of Executive Contract Law Officer", Emery signed the letter with a blood-red thumb print as a seal. The blood-red thumb-print seal, alongside other language used in the letter, is commonly linked with the alt-right "Sovereign Citizen" movement that is associated with rejection of Federal and State government's legitimacy to enforce laws and taxes. The "Furry Raiders" group have also been associated in press profiles with other alt-right and neo-nazi movements. More information regarding the conflict between Deo and RMFC can be found at Dogpatch Press.

When asked for comment on this issue, Zachary Brooks gave the following statement:

Quote
Up until the 2011 year, Rocky Mountain Fur Con filed and had accepted by the IRS form 990-N Electronic E-post card for Tax-Exempt Organizations not Required To File Form 990 or 990-EZ. When the company lost its 503C Status the organization continued to operate as a Colorado Stat Non-profit and contributed money to a registered charity Freedom Service Dogs, To Offset most of our tax Liability. Despite no longer operating as a Non-Profit organization the staff and Board of directors continued to receive no wages or compensation and all monies earned were put directly into the operation and growth of Rocky Mountain Fur Con, the organization's primary endeavor. In 2015 our accountants realized there had been a lapse in our tax filings that were rectified May 18th, 2015 and filed with the IRS including reporting of back income. The convention has been delayed in filing it's 2016 return but will be doing so shortly.

SovCit tax strategy might have sunk the convention regardless.  Funny how competent the far-right is at destroying itself.

As is becoming more and more common, it's way too bizarre a story to stay out of the mainstream:

Edit: As Kindri pointed out, the rather comprehensive article links back to Viv. Hi, new readers! I'm sure you're confused.

Man, I haven't thought of ScorchGD (one of the dudes involved in this, i forget his legal name and thus his role in this entire fiasco, maybe someone else can fill that in) in the longest time. All I knew about him a few years ago was that he believed he could, like, build perpetual motion machines. That, and I got banned from the furaffinity IRC channel on furnet for yelling at him about how that's completely impossible too loudly.

Yeah, I'd like to apologize for my role in that.

I later banned Scorch from the channel after numerous following times of spewing complete bullshit. He seems to have gotten worse since.

We can't have furry drama without the FurAffinity administration really jamming their proverbial dick into the proverbial hornet's nest.

Scorch's journal calling out Deo was reported to FurAffinity administrators, likely by a couple users since it was brought up when the journal was posted. A week later FA admins finally got around to seeing the tickets and replied to at least one report with some bizarre claim that harassment rules are only enforced now when the subject of the harassment reports it. They then proceeded to give Scorch a ban that couldn't have been more than 24 hours long, and yanked down the offending journal, but left his many comments calling out Deo on other journals.

Dragoneer seems to have some sort of history with Scorch. You can find him in the replies to Scorch's old journals (and BobSkunk alleges there was more in now-deleted journals). Given that he was tweeted at when this started and it took a week to get around to doing anything about it, one can only assume Scorch is the latest of Dragoneer's buddies to get some special treatment when it comes to the site rules.

A 24 hour ban is less than Sciggles was banned for when she posted a callout journal directed at another artist years ago.

It just keeps on going, too.

Dogpatch has released part 4 of it's RMFC coverage, exposing the fact that five days after the con's cancellation, some of RMFC's board hosted a furry event at a sex offender's house... and openly posting about allowing 15 year olds to attend and look at the furry porn that is apparently posted up on the house's walls. And, even better, Foxler attended this event.

*reads all of that including comments*

It just keeps getting worse.

I... how

I don't fucking get it. Maybe it's because i've always been too shy/nervous to go proper furry but I just don't get how this could happen on such a scale.

From third person sources, granted, apparently the Raiders are in turmoil over a fair number of them being outed in that Zoo telegram chat leak. They're turning on one another and Foxler is allegedly in a bunker with virtually no communications, barking impotent orders to generals over a map of the RMFC hotel.

Okay I made up the last bit, but he really did shout FEGELEIN for like 2 minutes.
random gay furry art is broken , when will it be fixed ?
