"Furry Network" Enters Closed Beta
« on: August 18, 2015, 01:28:37 am »
Do you remember when Weasyl, a site that was heavily promoted before it was even a thing, entered closed beta? Do you remember how people complained about the closed part of the beta, the lack of features that were promised (most of which still do not exist), and the forced square icons?

Well, Bad Dragon's art site, Furry Network, entered closed beta on Monday. And so far, it seems to be taking a page right out of Weasyl's book. Featuring forced square icons (granted, they are much larger than Weasyl's were) and an apparent absence of the big features their homepage touts ("Find artists open for commissions, pay them securely and feel protected at every step.")

Regardless, both Bad Dragon and Varka reteeted numerous tweets about the site and invited people to sign up for the wait list.

The golf cart races continue...

Furry Network

Half the time I can't tell if it's working or not. I guess it's processing 50 billions lines of javascript that load more javascript that appear to build the page from scratch every time. Is this a Web 2.5 thing? There's only one other site I've seen that does that. Of course with NoScript the front page is just blank white nothing until you enable a few things, which is nice.

It'll be fun to see how many of Weasyl's mistakes they replicate.

I for one welcome our latest furry web community ghost town.

There's almost enough to incorporate them into a ghost county.

Ever since I started working for an advertising company, I've been going around with ABP+ and NoScript turned on and not permissive, and any site that loads like this is a site that I just plain do not use. NoScript was just like, "Yeah, no, I'm not even gonna try."
im glad the "I saw a furry IRL" thread is so good at bringing goons together

FurryNetwork has started to see more activity. I guess they gave a bunch of invites to popular artists/fursuiters and fandom media/podcasters.

It still loads entirely through Javascript.
