In all likelihood, this is the final update of FA wasting donation money on hardware they don't need.
So remember when they bought all thhese SSD's and the makings of that app server last winter with all that donation money from the DDoS?
(The RAM was for a different server)
Those donated drives finally got put into use nearly seven months later at the end of July:
Earlier today, we officially rolled the site over to our new app server, Smaug (a 16-core Xeon system running DDR4 and SSDs). Woosh!
"Woosh" indeed. The site has now generated pages approximately a whole five milliseconds
faster since this server, a server that Piche has wanted for years, came online. Actual response time? Well, that didn't change much, if at all.
Do you see it? Do you see how much faster the site is because of this server??
Clearly they invested their money wisely. Why buy two app servers when you can just buy a really expensive, very slightly faster one?
