Not as smooth as they wanted..

Well that's why you buy a hard drive and test it way before you go and put it in, don't fucking wait till last minute. His ineptitude is astounding.

Meanwhile, timeouts ahoy for FA today. All database related according to Cloudflare, nice to see that ram actually worked out.

Strange...

FA was DDoSed yet again today. A user was able to grab a screenshot of the "users online" counter reading 126,637 before the site toppled over. The best part is this DDoS came through Cloudflare, because changing some Cloudflare settings (to the one that makes you go through a "browser check") was able to mitigate it. I wonder if Cloudflare's Anti-DDOS algorithm assumes that businesses paying hundreds of dollars a month for protection have the capacity to handle more than 10k users at a time...

Naturally, Princess Piche's response is more of the same victimization as usual. Because the site never goes down because of their own fault, right?
I'm genuinely sorry that a small handful of people are so committed to attacking furry sites and ruining it for everyone.

Good thing they have that server with 128GB of RAM, though!

The donation drive items have yet to be shipped to donators, per Yesterday's journal.

In all likelihood, this is the final update of FA wasting donation money on hardware they don't need.

So remember when they bought all thhese SSD's and the makings of that app server last winter with all that donation money from the DDoS?

(The RAM was for a different server)

Those donated drives finally got put into use nearly seven months later at the end of July:

Earlier today, we officially rolled the site over to our new app server, Smaug (a 16-core Xeon system running DDR4 and SSDs). Woosh!

"Woosh" indeed. The site has now generated pages approximately a whole five milliseconds faster since this server, a server that Piche has wanted for years, came online. Actual response time? Well, that didn't change much, if at all.

Do you see it? Do you see how much faster the site is because of this server??

Clearly they invested their money wisely. Why buy two app servers when you can just buy a really expensive, very slightly faster one?
